I don't have any experience with your board, however 8GB should not be a problem. It depends on how you have your system configured.
If you are running a highly overclocked system it may take a little more tweaking to get it going. I recently took loan of another 2x2GB kit to see if I could get things running, but gave up as I had to give them back the following day. My processor however is almost litterally teetering on the edge of its performance limits, which is a big factor. You may very well need a little more MCH (northbridge) voltage, and possibly need to tweak some of the advanced timings, such as Static tRead and tRFC. Be careful to make sure it's the same model, some manufacturers also use different memory chips for the same product, and give the stuff different version numbers. For example, I'm building a HTPC soon and accidently clicked the "add to basket" button twice on the site I ordered from. Only realised when I opened the package. The modules I have infront of me are Corsair XMS2 6400 C5 Version 4.2 and the ones I just eBayed were Version 3.1. When you do get your other stick, fill out the BIOS template with your settings at the end of this post. There are quite a few members who would be happy to help youi select some settings to get things running. LSDmeasap is excelent at fault finding and has a vast knowledge of the likely settings needed. This BIOS template is from a GA X48 DQ6, sorry I couldn't find one for a DS4. You may have to alter it a little for your board: Code:

You also may run into issues since you are mixing ram IC's, you do mean you have 2x1 + 2GB right now right? If not then ignore me, you will be fine with 8GB you will just need to adjust ram timings and MCH/ram voltages

From what I can gather, he bought an extra 2GB, to give him 6GB total. Therefore he must have had 4GB originally, and as the motherboard has only 4 slots, they must have been 2x2GB.
The total amount of RAM he has installed now is 3 x 2GB with one slot free. Good point LSD. Are all the modules Hyper X mozart134? I know Kingston do supply single sticks of it. If they are at least the same product range it would make life that much easier.

Yes the ram I have installed is the same speed, size and type (4x2 = 8GB) < well its going to be , in about a week, at the moment the 6gb is installed with no additional adjustments apart from the prior adjusts I made to overclock the CPU. My stats are below.
X48 DS4 (lastest bios) E5200 @ 3.31Ghz with stock voltage 1.15v (temps 28 idle /34 load) arctic cooler 7 FSB 265x 12.5 6GB(at present) 5,5,5,15 (had to adjust) DDR2 over voltage +0.05v (which I adjusted) now the speed is 1060 it was rated at 800 before. 800W PSU. 4850HD 512MB OC 700Mhz/1050Mhz Cheers for the help |
