Default Another Q9550 & UD3P Overclock

Title is incorrect! Should read Another Q9550 & UD3P Overclock

Hi people, I'm new here and to overclocking. This is my first build, so lots of 1st for me.

I want to get to 3.6GHz and not sure how to proceed from here. My higest core temp is core 0 @ 60c the other 3 are in the 56c to 58c range.

I have a rma for my current heatsink fan and getting a Coolermaster V8. I love the sound of that. Any way here is what I have so far using a templet of Lsdmeasap for Tik. Thanks for that template. Any thing you could tweak for better optimization and I should probably stay here untill I get the V8.

Default Re: Another Q9950 & UD3P Overclock

one cooler is rma?
The intel one is on now?
If the temps you mentioned are using the intel,u should get 10*C lower at peak with the V8 approx.Same as any good cooler really.

If trying for 3.6 2:40 B multiplier
You may have to use 10 static read on the mem ,tho maybe not.
and u can do the maths yourself 440-450 fsb and 8 or 8.5 on the cpu.
You will probably have to boost cpu and mch v a little, how much I cant say.
Those fsb speeds arent too strenuous tho.
For me fsb 490 to 500mhz stable means a increase of .02cpu ..02-.04mch and heh .14! ram.
Thats because my ram is at the edge and cpu isnt that far off on a 7 multiplier.
You may need little v change .
The other secondary ram timings may need to be loosened out a little or be just fine as they are..
Have you tried turbo performance on the ram(instead of standard) just to see if it would work ok on the settings you have now?.You would have to leave tRFC,tWTR etc on auto to try it.
with 60*C on whatever cooler you have , thats a 5*C or so( I work on 70* max temp full load case cover on limit, but thats just me) margin.
Unfortunately we cant read the nb temp directly Im looking arounf for some direct reading lcd/similar with a remote thermocuple that I can use.
I bought a 10 cents yeh 10 cents made in china refrigerator thermometer but its a low tech coiled spring. Still it does give interior case air temp.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I do have an RMS on the ASUS V-60 thats on there currently and will replace it when the V8 gets here.

I'll play with the bios a little later on. The rest of it looks alright I suppose.

Use the forum SEARCH feature. I just did a search using:

q9550 overclock

and got 3 pages of threads. Even though some of the threads deal with different mobos, you'll get an idea of what settings are generally successful. You should be able to find bios settings that worked for others, along with suggesting settings.

OK will do Jim, had searched for Q9550 & ud3p but not for just Q9550. Also gonna look more into the math kick was talking about. I seem to remember in one of the posts someone was talking about such calculations.

Any way thanks for the replies, and anybody else care to, jump on in.

I finally got the cooler installed. Currently I am up to 3.6GHz and stable I believe.
My core temps are running 58 - 60c, lowest v core is 1.15 volt but I don't think I can raise it due to the core temps.
Any help in optimizing my settings would be appreciated. I'd kinds like a faster memory MHz.

Default Re: Another Q9950 & UD3P Overclock

1.15 v eh v nice ,Id like to be able to hit 3.6 on mine with that V.

If you want to hold that fsb try the 2:40B multiplier for the memory
You will probably have to go to 5 timings ,bump mch v a bit possibly ram by .02.
Itslikely you might need the advanced timings on auto(using standard performance) tRFC of 52 might be a bit tight.

Are those settings what you are actually using right now? or did u just use a possible settings template?

What temps are u getting with cover on full load?

It was a template from one of the threads. I should have said that the core temps of 58 - 60c were full load using OCCT Linpack. Those temps kept triping my CPU alarm of 60c in Easy Tune 6. So not knowing WFT I'm doing lowered the Vcore to 1.23. I did notice the highest the vcore got was like 1.2 so it gave me a hunch I could lower it to that.

Quote:

Right now in Prime 95 I get the following:

Core Temps Idle: 35 - 38c
Core temps Full Load: 53 - 58c

Vcore Voltage Full Load: 1.17 - 1.20

CPU Temp Idle: 31c
Cpu Temp Full Load: 49 -56

I still bump 60c alarm with OCCT linpack but I guess it rocks the processor hard.

I may raise the Vcore up a couple of notches, MCH a couple of notches, ram V a notch, and tRFC oh like 57 or so. Ill also try the 2:40B multiplier you also suggest.

Thanks!

Thanks Kick for your help!

Is this as good as it gets with this setup? Any further assistance is appreciated.

I know a heck a lot more about over clocking today then I did a week ago.

Default Re: Another Q9950 & UD3P Overclock

GOOD STUFF, but ...
425 x 2.40B = 1020 MHz memory speed
your latest template still shows 850 MHz.

Post a screen shot of Memtest to show what what memory timings are being used.

As good as it gets, I doubt it.

tRD and tRFC settings have a major impact on memory performance.
tRD = 8 should work fine & tRD = 7 might be stable too.
tRFC = 48 - 52 might work.
At 1020 MHz, primary timings = 5-5-5-12 might be stable.
I've run 5-5-4-12 stable at 1030 MHz with my memory.

I haven't worked with the Q9xxx quads, so I don't know what the limits are.

Loading OPTIMIZED bios defaults is REQUIRED before you tweak your bios settings.
This includes new system setups and immediately after flashing your bios!!!
