I need your help! Updating my BIOS using Q-flash was successful (or not!?), however, after doing the suggested update (p31ds3l.f9) and rebooting, the same process of "Qflash utility preparing to load..." just keeps on looping. To add up, this odd ticking sound (I think this is the CMOS battery - this is how it goes - titititititick....) just before the Qflash utility page. Is this an error with the CMOS batt? My mobo? I tried clearing CMOS, removing CMOS batt but could not find any solution regarding the error I have encountered. Really hope you can help me. MOBO: GA-P31-DS3L (rev. 1.x) Thanks! |

There are MANY ways to flash and all use different files and methods. If you are using Qflash all you need is the .fxx BIOS file. This guide applies to all Gigabyte boards, even X58 If you need more help or something explained further let me know

I updated my BIOS from F7 to F8e.
I had this BIOS error last night when I turned my PC on. It was warning something, I can't really remember. What it did was it went back to F7 BIOS. Does it mean I am using the backup BIOS chip and the primary chip is dead already. I just flashed it once like 3 days ago. |

No, that simply means your overclock failed badly, or something else caused a bad failure and corrupted the MAIN BIOS. When that happens the backup BIOS kicks in and copies the BIOS it has onto the MAIN BIOS Chip is all, so you are using F7 then. If you want to go back to F8e you will need to reflash it, please read the first page of this thread if there is anything you are still unsure about. Or just ask us.

You can use the /? switch to see all the allowed modifiers for the program, I cannot recall if /CP (Clear PnP (ESCD)) and /CD (Clear DMI) work with flashSPI or not.
If you are super concerned with this you can use Qflash, it allows you to set "Keep DMI Data" to disabled. You may also use Awdflash if you like, then you could use any of the modifiers And also, yes just the normal flash command you noted would be fine, clear your CMOS manually after the flash and it will be all cleared then.
