BIOS Screen Garbled - EP45-UD3R help!

all different makes of graphic cards have different bios's like evga bfg ect...some work well others have issues i always stick to sapphire ati cards because they have generic bios's on them you wanna try an nvidia card without any third party manufacturer bios on it

mate, it's fairly certain your mobo is the problem - it's either picky or close to failure... both are bad signs. Don't waste your time swap the mobo and all should be well again.

you could also buy a molex splitter with a six pin or four pin gpu power connector on it,there cheap and try one connection that way to see if it fixes it

Seems I remember having this problem on a monitor that was going bad. Basically, recall turning up the volume on the speakers that were attached to the sides of the monitor. I guess the Electromagnetic waves put out by the speakers affected the monitor ( got a wavy twisted screen). I recall the fix is degausing of the monitor by a professional. If its a recent monitor it may have a built in degauser. Anyway try a different monitor and see if it helps. Thats my take on the subject. Well maybe Dell flat screens may not need to be degauss d so I retract my statement as to the possible cause and fix. :(
What kind of monitor is this a LCD ? I will bet if you try another monitor you will see a change.

So, having once worked at a graphics chip mfg. your issue is likely that the text mode that Gigabyte is using in the bios option screen is in some way not supported by your EVGA graphics card.
I doubt this problem would have anything to do with the power supply as these cards draw little power in the boot screens. Also, as you do not see the problem with another card it points to an incompatibility issue between the graphics card and motherboard. It is also possible that the video card is running the display mode in a way that the flat panel display barfs on. So, if you just swap out the EP45-UD3R I bet the problem follows. I think that EVGA likely has an issue with their bios.

bobs1812 is spot on. I would have thought that somebody would have paired those two components together and ran into the issue.

But, i had to beat myself up just a little more, before i finally got to your correct analysys. I bought a BFG GTX260, same chipset, Nvidia. I put it in the system, and the boot screen was clean. However, when it went into Windows, it was blue screening. Safe mode, didn't matter - wouldn't boot, but i won't bore you with all that. I am running Windows 7 (64bit)

I also saw issues with the keyboard after leaving the BIOS. Put the old legacy video card in, same issue.

So, now - i get to thinking that maybe there is an issue with the mobo. So, i rma'd it, and replaced it. As you pointed out, no change - with EVGA board, same old problem.

So, i figure that my Windows installation somehow got corrupt. I went ahead and re-installed windows, with the BFG video card and all is happy.

So, after swapping out several video cards, the mobo and the powersupply, in the end - you are RIGHT. EVGA card is incompatible with this motherboard. Amazing nobody has run into it.

Thanks "everybody" for the help and support. This has been a humbling experience - but in the end, i finally have a running system, which i had just about given up on.

I experienced exactly the same problem like you did. My spec:

CPU: Core I5 750 2.66GHZ
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB DDR3-2000 C9
MOBO:Gigabyte P55-UD4P SLI Motherboard
VIDEO CARD: EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB (896-P3-1255-AR)
PSU: Corsair TX650W 650W ATX 12V 52A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan
HDD: 2 250 GB SATA Drives
SOUND CARD: Sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS
O.S.: Wdinwows 7 Enterprise

The first time I ran the system, everything worked fine, then when I loaded a game "Cryostasis", it started o.k for 5 minutes, then the whole screen went black. I had to hard restart the computer.. Then, even at the GIGABYTE splash screen I could see some artifacts in the background. When I hit DELETE entering into BIOS, all the texts are garbled and unreadable. I can "see" the cursor moving as I hit the arrow key but that was it.

I swapped the video card back to my old Leadtek 7800 GT and it has been running smoothly without any problem for 2 days straight. I suspect it's an issue with EVGA cards.

Did you end up getting a different video card from different vendor? I'll bring the GTX 260 into store tomorrow for their Tech to test and hopefully I can get a swap. Any solution would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
