_i notice you're running Widows 7 ultimate x64 -I'm still on XP pro, having heard so much negative about Vista; is Win 7 x64 really good? I will need 64bit , as I'll have 8Mb memory, and was wondering whether XP x64, or Win 7 x64?

Mate Windows 7 is awesome. Ive been running Beta 7000 on one system 64Bit and RC1 32bit. 64bit works with every damm program I can find. no problems. Its so quick and it looks great and doesnt seem to have the little issues that vista had. Vista started off bad. But I think they have worked most of the bugs out now that Service pack 2 is out for it. But Forget vista mate. Windows 7 is the go. Definatly get 64bit. I will be buying it the day its out. Cant wait. XP 64bit is 64bit but its gots a hell of a lot of compatability issues and basically is just old crap now. Go with Windows 7 and you too can experience the joy of direct X 10 and beyond.

We almost always see and hear the negative reviews, although Vista has alot of positive reviews as well. I don't know about Windows7 yet. It's to early to know for sure.

Really good to hear about WIN7 x64! I never tried the beta releases, sadly, will wait for retail release...hope it's not too long!

Re. Vista, I only based my opinion on what I read/heard fairly early on, so yes, I'm definitely out of date and I'm sure it has improved, but I might as well wait for Win7 now.

All I can tell you is that I doubt you will find anyone saying anything good about Windows XP Professional 64Bit. Vista 64bit eats the 32bit version for breakfast. And Windows 7 64bit just rocks.

...I've clearly been in XP- world waaayyyy too long
(but actually held back by my aged dual Athlon XP system with 1Gb memory, -that's why I've got into new build).

All being well, I'll be ready to emerge from cave soon!.

The DarkPower series are excellent PSU's. Lsd was right to recommend caution, but they do indeed have all the safery measures needed. On short circuit and overload, the unit will "latch" meaning it can't be turned back on until all power is removed and sischarged. Even then it takes a moment to re-set, so as to be sure.

Sorry to hear this has happened to you. I had a similar accident too, involving a fan with a temp probe. I wanted it to run at max speed, so I cur the end and twisted the wires together. It worked great until I put the fan down on the bottom of the case to turn off the power. I intended to cover the bare wire in tape right away, but it touched the metal of the case and BOOM!. Luckily it was only the fan that died, nothing else.
