# Module size and kit size:-4gb 2x2gb kit # CPU model and rated speed:-Q9550 2.8GHz # Overclocked CPU speed:-3.4GHz # Motherboard and revision:-EP45T-EXTREME # Motherboard Bios rev:-F4 # Video card:-Radeon 4850 # Power supply:-Seasonic 620W # Operating System:-XP Pro sp3 # CPU and System Cooling: Scythe Ninja # CPU and System temps:-38-40 degrees I have just built my new PC & having little trouble with it. When I OC my CPU to 3.4Ghz (8.5multiplier X 400 CPU frequency) it automatically sets FSB RAM ratio to 5:8 i.e motherboard bus at 1600Mhz & DRAM frequency at 1280Mhz. System boots into XP fine & is tested stable with prime95. I would like to be able to run my setup with a 1:1 ratio but i'm not able to achieve this. Using the same RAM & CPU I was able to do this with my previous Asus P5E3 motherboard before it died & i replaced it with the Gigabyte EP45T-EXTREME. I can do manual settings & set System Memory Multiplier to 3.33D which than allows me to run the memory at 1333Mhz which is a little better. But when i set it to 4.00D to get 1600MHZ the PC fails to boot to bios. I have increased the DRAM voltage from standard to 1.8V & relaxed all standard timings to really low levels but it still has not helped to start up the PC. Also i disabled all CPU features that hinder the overclocking. I believe this is a problem due to my lack of overclocking experience with the new motherboard or possibly an issue with the bios. Someone please advise on how i can get my memory working at 1:1 again with this motherboard. For me the Quad Q9550 running at 3.4Ghz @ 1:1 24/7 is the sweet spot. 1:1 is not advisable with DDR3 as with a FSB of 400 that would also mean 400 MHz RAM clockrate (effectively 800, that's why they call it Double Data Rate).
1:1 does NOT mean RAM at effectively 1600 and quad pumped FSB at 1600 (really at 400MHZ). See the "Overclocking Basics" link in my sig for more info (I need to finish that...).

Thanks Nickel - I will check out your guide.
I understand your point on running 1:1 with DDR3. But being able to run synchronous has its benifits & having paid for a topend motherboard i would expect to be able to do this with ease. I have done some testing since to verify if its the ram or the motherboard. With 8.5 multiplier & CPU fsb set to 400MHZ I was able to run the memory using 3.33D at 1333Mhz 7.7.7.20 1.76V comfortably. But when going to 4.0D to achieve memory speed of 1600MHz the computer fails to start even with most loose memory speeds at 1.8V+ & MCH 1.44V+. What i did than was to see if the memory itself was capable to 1600Mhz. Using 7.5X, 480FSB, 3.33D & 7.7.7.20 i was able to able to get memory to 1600Mhz. I booted successfully into XP & managed to run prime95. I was able to relax the memory voltage to 1.76 & MCH to 1.24V & could have possibly gone lower with further testing. With these settings I had the CPU running at 3.6GHz, 1920Mhz FSB, memory at the desired 1600Mhz i.e ratio of 5:3. I went back into bios & dropped CPU clock to 400Mhz & selected 4.0D but PC would not boot. I tried increasing the memory volts to 1.8V & MCH to 1.44V but did not make a difference. Also upgrading the bios to latest version 5FD has not helped. I think this indicates that there is something wrong with the 4.0D settings as the memory has proven to work at 1600Mhz with 3.33D setting. Is this proof enough that 4.0D is buggered ? I am hoping Janus of Gigabyte support will respond to this thread. Hopefully it can be addressed by the time final 5FD is out.

Thanks for helping out Lsdmeasap.
![]() Here is your edited template with some of your edited settings. Most of the stuff i left as default/auto which i see now is not a good idea with volts. As mentioned earlier these settings work fine to get CPU OC to 3.6GHZ with memory at 1600mhz using 3.33D. Quote:
I have 2x Samsung 320G HD's in Raid Zero configuration on sata 0 & 1. The performance of these is pretty terrible compared to what is expected. HD Tune read benchmark shows a curved zigzaged (up/down) horizontal performance line across the graph rather than a straight horizontal one with some small zigzaging. I had these HD's in same config on the Asus P5E3 & they flew. I'm wondering whether i am using wrong sata ports or doing something else wrong in bios that is affecting performance. Also i installed the latest Intel Matrix drivers over the XP SP3 ones - could this be the culprit ? |

So I am confused now, you said you had issues before and now in your last post you said those were working for you?
I can advise of course, and will, of optimal settings for the above table. But just really not sure of how to best do that since I am unsure if you are having issues or not? You do realize that is 1333 ram right, just checking? This is it correct >>> OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ PC3-10666 Reaper HPC About your RAID, do you have Volume Write Back Cache enabled in the matrix software, and write cache enabled for the drive in device manager? Sorry about the confusion. To clarify
Quote:
I want to be able to able to OC to 3.4GHz with 400 CPU Frequency & memory at 1600Mhz to achieve 1:1. For this i believe i need to use 4.0D memory. To date when i have done this the computer fails to startup - error beeps. Thanks for the pointer on the HDD - i will try those out later as well as the OC settings you have provided. Ahh ok, Well then ya, use the above for 1600 1:1 setup, you may need a little more tWTR then I listed but I would assume you would try a bit higher of all things if you have issues anyway right?
Quote:
I would advise some about Vtt as well, but not sure what you are trying there so I really could not say what to try next on that aspect If you still get stumped post again what you last tried that fails still and I will see what I can think up to get you going
