Default Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

It didn't like the MCH Core up a notch / VCore down a notch at all, it BSOD'ed with 00124 after about an hour according to the Prime log.

Yes, they replaced the RAM the day after, new one has been fine.

Default Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

You could try a notch up in Vcore from the 24 hour fail, or the same Vcore and a notch up in MCH.

After that try the same Vcore and MCH with more PLL, then more VTT maybe. Be systematic, change one thing at a time. If the thing you changed improved time before failiure, raise it again. If raising makes it worse, lower back and try something else. If raising it again helped, then raise it some more.

Default Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

My prime 95 "blend" test with IBT's also thrown in every once in a while BSOD'd @ around 19 or so hours... I have no patience for a 19 hour test failure!! lol

I was testing a FSB @ 495. I thought I was stable to 515.. but I didn't need to go that high so I back it off and wanted to verify long term stability. bzzzzzzzzzzzzt nutz!

I am upping my MCH Core to 1.260... where are you at now D-and-W?

Default Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

I have had no luck at all with 2.00B strap. I have had a pretty easy time with 2.00D. I tried for a tRD of 7... bzzzzt. I am now trying for a tRD of 8 @ 450 FSB... and having no luck so far.. My board seems to really like MCH Core being around 1.26.

edit...

Don't think I can get tRD of 8 either (Keep locking up on Memtest86+ Test #3).. Guess I will be happy with tRD of 9.

Default Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

My experience with my E6550 is that up to about 470MHz, the 2.00B strap allows Static tRead Value to be set 1 step lower than the setting required when using the 2.00D strap. At higher cpu clock settings, the 2.00D setting runs fine with Static tRead 1 setting lower (tighter) than the 2.00B strap. I've used both straps up to 520MHz speeds, but both straps are not stable at speeds higher than 494MHz.

Memory bandwidth tests show an improvement of 200+ MHz using the tighter Static tRead setting. I can use identical bios settings with either of these straps when I adjust the Static tRead Value to the lowest possible setting.

Some have reported having a more difficult time when using the 2.00B multiplier and they had an easier time using the 2.00D setup.

Maybe it's a C2D vs Quad thing.

** edit **
At 459MHz and 2.40B (1102MHz memory), my system is stable using tRD = 8.
This means that tRD = 9 is probably required on your system using mid 400MHz speeds with the 2.00D strap.
tRD = 9 is usable up to about 510MHz on my system.

Cheers PJ, I will try and get my head round that tonight.

It didn't like PLL up one notch or CPU Vcore up a notch. Maybe my 24hr Prime was a fluke (Is that even possible?)?

Maybe I need to try and go near stock and try a 2.00B strap.. then if I get it slowly move up and see what happens. I really would like to get a 8 tRD.. profJim are you saying that you can go tRD 8 on "B" until like 470 FSB.. then you have to switch over to "D" strap to go above 470 FSB with a 8 tRD?

Default Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

**EDIT**

It may be best to ignore my idea...

I will not delete it.. so others can comment on how bad of an idea it is..

D-and-W,
one of the gang eluded to a GA-EP45-UD3P review with E8400... The guy was using memory that neither one of us could ever afford.. but I noticed something in his review.. he was hitting 4.5Ghz and higher.. it was how he was doing it that facinated me..
I know the guys here don't like auto settings, and for good reason.. but it will give you a quick idea of what the machine thinks will work with what you are asking of it. Then you can tweak from there. I was able to use 2.00B straps to 430 FSB.. then went 2.00D to 450FSB. I think I have the golden 4-4-4-12 tRD of 8 and FSB of 450.. Here is how I found it..

You might try this to find it, write down the value and get out quick. Then tweak from there.

EDIT..

Here is the link to that article. Kick found it http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/861127

Default Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

Quote:
are you saying that you can go tRD 8 on "B" until like 470 FSB.. then you have to switch over to "D" strap to go above 470 FSB with a 8 tRD?
No, I said:
Quote:
I've used both straps up to 520MHz speeds, but both straps are not stable at speeds higher than 494MHz.
I've had no trouble at all using the 2.00B strap, others have said that getting the B-strap stable can be harder than using the D-strap when the cpu clock speed is above 400MHz.

Here's a brief summary with my system with cpu speeds above 400MHz:

1) up to about 470MHz, the tRD setting for the B-strap can be 1 step lower (tighter) than the D-strap at the same cpu speeds.

2) higher than 470MHz, the D-strap's tRD setting can be 1 step lower than the B-strap at the same cpu speeds.

3) my system would boot into windows and run all benchmarks up to 528MHz speeds, but always failed stability stress tests above 494MHz, using regardless of which strap was used.

4) above 510MHz, the tRD setting had to be increased, regardless of which strap was used.

My system's stability issues are probably due to my E6550 cpu, as the mobo is easily capable of mid to upper 500MHz clock speeds.

Anyone care to loan me a cpu that's capable of running at 600MHz?
I'd love to run my DDR2 memory 1:1 at 1200MHz.

Loading OPTIMIZED bios defaults is REQUIRED before you tweak your bios settings.
This includes new system setups and immediately after flashing your bios!!!
