GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB

I played with 533x8 and my E8400 just doesn't want to run Orthos more than a few seconds with 1.44 VCore (1.475 in BIOS) according to CPUZ, so I'm content with 4.0Ghz with a much less 1.36 VCore (1.40 in BIOS).

534x7.5 (4005 mhz) Orthos stable for 9 hours and counting. I'm using the same voltages as my last settings post (page 38).

LSD, when you had a play with this RAM did you pick up any tips that might stabilise Prime Large for me?

On my UD3P board, I needed 1.34v to get 526FSB completely stable.

For 550FSB, you're gonna need around 1.38v on the MCH core voltage to get the northbridge stable.

another 12 hours of OCCTPT.. so am up to 60 hours!! My goal is profJim's + 1 so 73 hours here I come!! I want the crown of time wasted on a stability test!! lol I really like 525FSB x8 for 4.2Ghz.. so some extra stability testing is ok by me to be extra sure. I am now running the OCCTPT linpack for another 13 hrs. temps are hovering around 78... uggggggg......

Well that lasted a whole 15-20 minutes... I got the quacking duck telling me my cpu's were to hot. So not a true failure. Back to Prime95!

78 degrees Celsius? That's a little too hot for my tastes but every CPU has a different max temp. Personally, I don't like to see high 50's, low 60's but will tolerate them for benchmark purposes. In my previous post with the screenshot, it shows 52C and that's the highest I have ever seen my E8400 at 1.36VCore after 9 hours of Orthos.

I always leave a margin of error of ~7-10C because temp sensors are notoriously inconsistent. The following link shows different "max" temps for different CPUs. Wolfdales are sitting at 72.4C.

It's always best to calibrate your sensors. Use the guide here for how to calibrate RealTemp: Real Temp - Documentation . Unfortunately both of my DTS sensors are stuck, so I can't calibrate mine. I strongly suggest that anyone who is able to does so. Non calibrated temps can be +/-10c

Note that for E0 stepping E8xxx and all steppings of the E7xxx series, critical temp is 74.1c. For C0 E8xxx it is indeed 72.4c

I had 530x8 rock solid, passing everything I threw at it...I guess 550 wasn't as easy as I first thought

Ah I just noticed your CPU is a "E8400 C0" where as mine is a E0 and I'm able to do 533x8 @ 1.36250 Vcore in bios with LLC on and 1.340v MCH Core. 4.0 is still excellent.

Still playing around trying to get 533x8.5 to work, I'm thinking that indeed as noted above I'll need 1.380v~ of MCH Core to get it to work.

Windows Aero has gone and vanished on me now (I liked it...OK ), all the solutions Google has brought so far haven't done squat.

Its just as if someone deleted the Aero theme from the Appearance Settings box...

What were you testing when you last saw it? 600x8? lol

What's the difference between critical temp and TJ Max? Is TJ Max where it will be dead right there and then (big glob of goo)... where Critical temp is more like any time above it and some damage is possible?

I've decided to get another tube of AS5 and yank the heatsink. If the CPU is flat.. I have a E8500 E0.. then I will lapp the heatsink. I am NOT going to lapp the CPU.. it's just not going to happen. Remember I am the guy who flipped his motherboard over and had it land hard on the installed memory on the kitchen table. And if the CPU is not flat, then there will probably be no benefit.
