"Verifying DMI Pool Data...." can be caused by the BIOS as well as software and hardware issues.
Everything was working fine before the mobo/cpu upgrade. @Chike, are you referring to the Memory Frequency?

Should I be looking into manually setting the DRAM Timing or the System Memory Multiplier?

If the Memory modules aren't compatible, what modules are recommended for this mobo?
I don't mind getting new memory, but I would like to know what would be in the top 10.

The lowest multiplier for the board is 2, with 333FSB the memory will run at minimum 667MHz which is overclock for rhis model.
I cannot recommend any specific model, but get a good quality ram, note one of the "value" types. DDR-800 if you do not intend to overclock, DDR-1066+ if you do.

Those only 2GB(2x1GB), not top of the shelf, I have the low latency version and have no problems, but already been told I am lucky because others do.
If you need 4GB look for a 2x2GB kit, 4 sticks may be more of a hassle.

What are the basic differences between DDR / DDR2 / DDR3 ?
533 / 667 / 800 / 1600 ... in regards to this mobo? Buffered vs unbuffered ? I want to make an educated decision.

DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 are 3 different and incompatible types of memory. The motherboard you have supports only DDR2 memory.
The E8400 CPU runs at a default FSB of 333MHz, which (using the lowest memory multiplier of 2x) requires the memory to run at DDR2-667. Your current memory is specified at DDR2-533, so at default setting you are trying to run it beyond it stated specification. WIll advise you get at least a DDR2-667 memory, though DDR2-800 or DDR2-1066 would be preferable. In the mean time, you can try underclocking the CPU by setting the FSB clock to 266MHz with 2x multiplier. |
