Question GA-EX58-UD5 + INTEL Xeon Quad Core X5560

Hi,

I would like to buy i7 Core config, here is my choice:
- GA-EX58-UD5
- INTEL Xeon Quad Core X5560
- G.Skill Trident 6GB 3x2GB DDR3 2000 Triple Channel RAM

Is it possible?

Thanks.

Regards.

Board should work but thats not an i7 processor, Those would be like i7 920 - i7 940 - i7 960 I think.

That CPU is for dual processors boards. I'm not sure if it works on a single processor X58 board but it certainly wouldn't bring any benefit compared to a Core i7 of the same speed. The dual processors capable CPUs have an additional QPI link with which two CPUs can communicate with each other, but that's their only advantage. So you would be much better of getting a Core i7 950 for about half the price which is 133 MHz faster. Or an i7 975 Extreme which is significantly faster and costs less as well.
Also, super fast RAM isn't necessary on the Core i7, the benefits are very small considering the price. Read this article about that:
AnandTech: Memory Scaling on Core i7 - Is DDR3-1066 Really the Best Choice?

If you tell what the system will be used for and how big the budget is we can tell you what your best buying options are.

You are right, I made a mistake, it's Intel Xeon Quad Core W35xx = i9x...

I had the opportunity to have one of it (X5560), but I did'nt take it.

I am certainly going to take one i920 or one i940 and for the memorys, they are already ordered!

It will be for overclocking, games and video encoding... and my budget is about 700USD.

You know Intel is going to release their new processors in Sept right.

Lynnfield chiips to be unveiled will be models Core i7-870 (4 cores, 8 threads, 8MB cache, 2.93GHz clock-speed) Core i7-860 (4 cores, 8 threads, 8MB cache, 2.80GHz clock-speed)

Core i5-750 (4 cores, 4 threads, 8MB cache, 2.66GHz clock-speed) that will cost $562, $284 and $196, respectively.

At present Intel Core i7-950 (4 cores, 8 threads, 8MB cache, 3.06GHz clock-speed) is priced at $562 and on October 18, 2009, Intel plans to introduce Core i7-960 chip (4 cores, 8 threads, 8MB cache, 3.2GHz clock-speed) at that price-point.

There is also going to be an Intel Core i3 I believe. Might be worth looking into if you can wait.
