Default GA-X58-EXTREME - wrong Raid 0?!

Hi there,

I'm not sure if I setup the raid correctly... (2x SSD Intel X-25M 80Gig)

-plugged in the 2 ssds in the left conectors
-build performance raid in bios
-ssds merged correctly (size)

but realized later the bios settings

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode [Disabled]
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Enabled] <-- what does this do?
Onboard SATA/IDE Device [Enabled]
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [IDE]

Now i have a software raid when Sata Raid is Disabled?
How can i improve performance or set my Raid right?

Thanks for help!

Yeap, you need to redo it....

Plug your SSD's into port SATAII 0 and SATAII 1, on the yellow ports, then you need these settings set >>>

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode [Disabled] << RAID
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Enabled] <-- what does this do? << This can be enabled or not, it just allows the system to assing a IRQ or not to the ports

Then you will need to press Control + I on the IRQ screen at bootup time to enter the Intel RAID ROM and setup your RAID Array, you will see the note at the bottom of the screen

Anytime!

All DATA will be lost for sure, so move/copy anything you need to another disk

Uh ok, what is the best way for that?

Partitions on my 2 SSD's
C: OS 50 Gig
D: Games / Data 100 Gig

I whould take my external hdd... an save all data on it. But what tool is the best for that, I have to move the system back to the ssds and bring Vista to that point that it will accept the new raid!?

You would only be able to backup files, not the system itself or programs. So move all your installers, music, pics, ect to your external and then check again to be sure you have EVERYTHING you want, then check once more. Then do the move

Then you will create a new array (Control + I at bootup) and then you will do a clean install of vista using the Intel RAID ICH10R drivers when it asks for a driver. It may not ask but show you the disk to install to, but install the drivers anyway as they are better then the generic vista ones

Thank you LSD! I will do it today an post the results... with Benchmarks of the SSD's but i have one more question.

If i use the other conectors (not yellow) then I use the JMicron controller? What is the better one for my SSD's. IHC10 or JMicron?

I think its best to go with the Yellow pots. IHC10 is good for RAID.

Thanks for your help,

I have tested noch performance on JMicron332 and ICH10 Controller.
Here are the results:

Intel x25-m / raid0 / JMicron332 controller / IDE Mode

Intel x25-m / raid0 / ICH10 controller / AHCI Mode

I think the results say all!
