Default Gigabyte Ex58-UD5 vs Seasonic M12D 850W

Is there a known incompatability with these two? Myself and a number of others cannot get our UD5's to POST with this specific PSU.

The symptoms are: YouTube - Seasonic M12D PSU won't boot system - Gigabyte EX58-UD5

(see this thread: does the seasonic 750w not work with gigabyte ud5 - Overclockers UK Forums)

My mobo works perfectly fine with another PSU that I had laying around, and the PSU checks out for normal voltages on all rails - but when you power it up the CPU fan just clicks a half revolution or so then all power to the mobo is gone.

It's not clear from your post so I will ask the obvious. Does the Seasonic work on another system?

Sorry, yes. It works fine on my old Asus A8N SLI Socket 939 system. I also RMA'd the PSU and the shop said normal voltages across all rails.

yeah but sticking a voltmeter on the connectors tell nothing how the psu will respond when a load is put on it
