Unhappy iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period

Hi,

My system:

GA-965P-DS3P
Core 2 Duo 4300
2Gb Gskill DDR2
Western digital 1TB WD10EACS and 500GB WD5000AAKS
pioneer 215bk sata dvd writer
600 watt zalman PSU
Vista home premium Sp1

The problem:

I was running windows 2000 with the above setup and i started to get
event id 11 errors in my log such as "The driver detected a controller error on\Device\Ide\IdePort1" i could find no reason for these errors, but they caused me no problem.

I then upgraded my Os to vista and now i have event id 9 problems giving the error "The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period." It happens most when dealing with large files, unzipping copying etc, the pc will freeze for five minutes with the hard drive activity indicator light on. After the five minutes the pc returns to normal leaving the event id 9 in the event log. I have installed Vista with AHCI enabled and in IDE mode it makes no difference.

I have update the bios from F5 to F6g the error is the same with both. I am installing vista with the latest drivers from intels site and installing the Intel matrix driver 7.8 after the install of vista. I have tried two different dvd drives both on the intel controller and the Jmicron. Right now my hard drives are on the ICH8R and my dvd drive on the Jmicron(Jmicron is in ide mode). I have tried running each hard drive by itself with no change to the error.

Its driving me to distraction please help :)

Thank you

When you say Upgrade, do you mean Upgrade install over 2000? If so, I suggest you do a full format and a clean reinstall

If not, The only thing I could think that may help would be in safe mode go in device manager, and uninstall the driver, then reinstall it for the disk drive. You do not need to install the matrix driver after install. All you needed to install is the AHCI driver Pre install with the OS

Thank you for the reply Sorry i should have mentioned it was a clean install. I have done a clean install many times now with no change. I have Pre installed the AHCI driver. I have also tried different cables. I tried your suggestion with no change to my problem.

Thank you for your help!

Try this intel matrix storage driver it is said to fix or disable the issue
Intel® Matrix Storage Manager - Possible issues with Windows Vista* and Intel® RAID

I have that driver installed and have tried the intel registry edit to fix this problem:
1. Go to Start -> Search.
2. Type in RegEdit and hit the Enter key.
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\iaStor(v).
4. Right-click on the Parameters key under iaStor(v) and select the Delete option.

The problem remains

Once again thanks for your assistance.

Ahh, well Sorry!

So you tried the newest and the older one I suggested above? It is a older version incase you didn't notice 7.5

Ahh well sorry, I too could not find many real answers. You could switch to the Gigabyte Purple ports for your hard drives and not use the intel ones and therefore not need iaStore

Just a thought, this is what I would do!
