Default incompatible? 4870x2 + Ep45-DS3R?

Hello I recently purchased a radeon hd 4870x2 and it refuses to boot up with my Gigabyte Ep45-Ds3r firmware F8. Im quite sure its not my PSU because i tested it with the same psu different mobo and it runs fine.

Are you sure the PCI-E slot you are trying to use works? Meaning have you used this board before or can you test a smaller card in there?

You may also want or need to add +.1-.2 to your SB voltage

Have you used this board at all yet, or this ram? Just wondering as you will likely need to add .1-2 MCH Core voltage and Manually set tRFC to 52-62 for that 2x2GB ram

Also check Advanced BIOS page and be sure Init First Display is set to the PCI-E slot you are trying to use (PEG for the first normally used slot, and PEG2 for the second one). You may also want to try this set on 2 and put the card into slot two until you can test to be sure slot one work with other cards

If there's a 4-pin plug on the mobo try plugging in a +12v connector into it. Found that got my other board booted fine with the 9800GTX. if there is no 4-pin connector on the mobo do what lsdmeasap does cause i've found he's usually right.

Yes I'm sure that this pci-e slot works, i currently have a x1900 working on it.

I will try adding voltage to SB.

I have been using this board and ram combination with the x1900 for 2 months now. I will try adding MCH core voltage and setting tRFC.

I've tried setting the init first display to pci-e and it didn't help.

For stability I am using optimized settings (stock clock) with my timings set manually to 5 5 5 18 and the dimm voltage to 2.1v as specified by manufacturer.

There is no 4 pin plug on the mobo. There are two pins on the video card, a 6 pin and a 8 pin. I have tried attaching both 6 and 8 using one modular cable and also mixing it by trying 2 modular cables and one cable plug for each pin on the card

The machine boots up to the first bios page, and registers the drives and memory tests pass and then it changes to the next screen but then fails there and reboots. I get stuck on a reboot loop like that.

So there is video signal because it shows the first bios page :P.

Init first display needs to either be PEG or PEG2, PEG is the first PCI-E slot and PEG2 is the second. The PCI choice is just that, the choice you would use if you are using a PCI GFX card, which you are not. Just FYI incase anyone is reading this later

Have you tested this card on someone elses board? If not you need to because it could have came to you DOA

Did you set NB and SB voltages up some yet?

Yeah, that's why I'm happy I didn't decide to use CrossFire - i bought GTX 280 in the same price instead, to feel comfortably numb. I'm afraid You must wait for better Radeon drivers - Bios runs fine because it doesn't need them to run. /edit/: it's not CF, but 4870x2. F8 and reinstall graphics driver. Be sure all plugs are connected.

No luck with F9, i will try raising southbridge and northbridge voltages and try again.
Does any1 have information about the diagnostic LED's on the 4870x2?
I see 5 red leds and 3 green leds at bootup. then the middle led set of the 5 blinks before restarting. this led is R819
