Default Re: New Build GA-EP45-DS3 + Q9550

If you canmpost a full template of your BIOS, we can have a look and see what settings you have to play with.

I believe you have something like:
GTL Ref 1
GTL Ref 2

Not sure if they're both CPU refs or if one is MCH ref. It could also be the PSU holding you back. Have you adjusted the rails with the included utility when under load? Don't set them too high. 12V-12.1V and as clost to 5V and 3.3V as you can get. It may help. If LED's are going dim when disks spin up, there may well be something wrong. Perhaps movinf modular cables to other slots/rails may help too.

If you're using the fans included in the Lian Li, it's definately those making the noise. They are loud on full. They become near silent on 7V but obviously the ammount of air they shift will decrease. I heartily recommend a couple of Noctua fans. Have one on full 1300RPM at the back and the front on 1100RPM (9V LNA).

You could mount your PSU either way really. As long as there's 1.5" clearance between the fan and the floor you should be fine. You may want to install a fan filter, especially if the PC will be sitting on carpet, as the fan will suck in alot of fluff. In something like a PSU, which gets to 50c+ inside it may not smell too good, all those burning dust mite droppings and human skin, talc, anti-perspirant etc etc, all the good stuff.

Default Re: New Build GA-EP45-DS3 + Q9550

Thanks for you post. I did post everything in the MIT a couple of pages back. I dont think there is anything worth putting up from any of the other screens in the BIOS. before I lost the plot last night I did swap plugs around on the PSU to use different RAILS and that has seemed to help. Why my CPU is dropping to 1.20v under load now is unknown but I will play with Power Tuner at a later date. Tonight I will RE RAID 1 the setup and install the OS and my Software on and transfer my DATA over. I ran out of time last night as I spent a great deal of time on Cable management. I will put up a pic of my new build tonight, It looks pretty clean.

Does anyone have suggestions of how to remove LED's from the front case fan? I will probably by a new one anyway. Does Noctua make a 140mm fan? Ill have to have a look.

So I came in this morning and Prime 95 was still running 8 Hours 11 Minutes without error and temps never were close to 50. So yay. Ill try an overclock tonight. Ill mess with the MCH volts a tad. Ill keep you all posted.

Another thing that Is a bit dodgy is that in CPU-Z it shows the Ram type as PC6400 - 400Mhz DDR2 below which is has bla bla 8500 model number. In the other screen it shows it running @ the correct 533Mhz. Whats the go there?

It's because 99% of DDR 1066 is high binned PC-6400. The 1066 standard doesn't officially exist. My corsair is also PC-6400 IC's, just that they clock well.

I thought so too, but it seems that is does. Mybe it's new.
However with 5-5-5 timings it will probably have to be in the EPP anyway.

Interesting. Hense the Need for more volts. Psycho do you have an opinion on to why Prime 95 Would Fail on various threads in short succession and then run fine after no BIOS alterations? Do you also have an opinion as to what would cause Prime 95 to freeze when overclocked even Underclocked with a 400mhz FSB. Which previously did work with old CPU and XMS 2?

Yeah if i put it on AUTO it goes to 800Mhz, But that is with the Preformance Thingy set to STANDARD. I might try tonight when I get home just upping some volts across the Board and see what happens. Im just happy that It ran all night on prime at super low temps and no errors.

EDIT: What are the realist chances of if I got another 2X2Gb of this same ram would it work sweet?? I know there may be a few things Ill need to tweak to get it to run. Im not interested in overclocking the RAM i just would like 8Gb working sweet?

SUPER EDIT: I was thinking, since the Rear case fan is the source of the Noise I got going on with this system, as the front one does like 400RPM and is 14cm I was thinking could I put one of the LNA things that came with the NH-U12P on the Rear case fan? That wouldnt stuff anything would it. I dont think it needs to be going as hard as it does. Its really pumping.

Hey all wanna here something crazy? I flashed the BIOS of the X48-DS5 to F8c and loaded optimum and then rebooted and then set everything up again but I noticed for some reason it detected the RAM Auto as 1066 this time with some wake timmings 5-7-7-20? dont know were they came from anyway I upped the FSB to 400 Multi 8 Memory multi to 2.66D and 2.1vdimm, 1.25vcore MCH +0.1 and Its running prime 95 so far for 15 minutes without issue. Better then the 4 i was getting. Max temp 50C. Ill keep you all posted. Fingers crossed.
