Sure it will work, but not properly nor as fast as would be if you used matched drives. Not sure if you were aware of this or not, so I thought I better toss it out there

Yeah I know. I only did it for something to do and to get ready for my big build this week when I get all the Bits. I will be using 2 X 1TB ST31000333AS drives in RAID 1. I just wanted to see what happened and make sure that the X48-DS5 RAID was all working sweet and that I would have no probelms as I will have basically my only 3 working PC's at home Dismantled to build up 2 super sweet machines all from scratch. I just wanted to do it. I have never set up a RAID before.

Here is a quick pick from the RAID 0 in HD TUNE. Burst Rate is way down than normal but. Dont know whats thats about. but yeah, this is how I learn LSD I just fiddle and do stuff.

Ahh, ok. Just wasn't sure if you knew all that or not.

I like to play around too, so I know what you mean for sure.

Looks good even with mismatched drives. What you really want to do is RAID 0 with your 3 drives.

Then you will do WAY better than this, this is a RAID 0 500G of 3x 250GB ST3250410AS 16MB Cache 7200.10 Drives, old stuff compared to what you got. Also this is only partial array of the disks 500GB, rest is RAID5, that's why the drop at the end is not such a drop off.

Just trying to convince you to go RAID 0 not trying to show you up or anything at all

Lol holy crap!! That Burst Rates is insain. Im only going RAID 1 for redundancy. These drives are pretty quick by themselves so in a RAID 1 they go ok for what i need. I just need some Redundancy cause after ready the reviews on Newegg Im loosing real faith in seagate. I updated my firmware on the ST31000333AS before it became bricked but even the new 7200.12 drives. Theres more reviews on there of people with ones that failed. Mind you this drives date code corrisponds to the 18th of May 2009 so its pretty up to date. If i had the money I would go RAID 10 with 4 drives but I just dont at this stage. I may go raid 0 with my gaming rig later on. for now RAID 1 for my daily machine which will be the Quad 9550 when I get it. I wish it would come soon I am loosing serious sleep thinking about all the configurations with the gear Ive got and im affriad that I will end up buying another HD4850 or even HD4870 or HD4890 before this week is done because I just dont wanna hold my Quad back to video encoding only and the 8800GT didnt work to well on that X48 board before and I cant imagine it will work well again.

Giving the fact your CPU usage is negative, why should you trust any other reading?
What does the vertical axis of the graph represents?
And what block size do you use, this has major effect on performance?

Yeah the -1% CPU usage has me stummped?? I dont know whats going on there. I used the default stripe size in RAID 0 and there is no option in RAID 1 but its 512bytes.

I meant the block size in HD Tune, it defaults to 16K I think.
Maybe as Lsdmeasap said it's not such a great idea to mix differend drives.
I would start by testing each of them individually. You may expect RAID 1 to be better than the slower one, but not that much.
Since RAID 1 is mirror I guess it just makes sence to use disks sector size, operating system will mostely read/write at format block size anyway.
