Cool guys thanks again for info, I'll try and re-post the Memset, ET6 and CPUZ screenshot again and will edit my sig for a memory link ^^

I'll try and find Conners' post on what has worked with different BIOS templates and settings; Need to research this a bit tonight and then maybe jump in with both feet and try to do my first OC.

thanx again for all input

So I don't understand. Those look like stock settings. Have you actually tried anything yet?

Ok so here it goes, I just tried my first OC and It did... well strange things; Pretty sure it failed, but here is what I did~

- set FSB to 400Mhz

-set CPU muliplier to 7.5 which brought it to 3.0Ghz (just a lite OC)

-changed memory multi to 2.00B strap

- set cpu vcore manually to default 1.2500v is it?

- set cpu pll to default 1.5v

- set vtt (is this the same as cpu termination?) to default 1.2v

- upped DRAM voltage from 2.0v to 2.1v

-left MCH core manually set at 1.2v (what I had before)

- set tRD to 8

left everything else as is. I then saved and exited BIOS and then the wierd thing was the computer tried to boot a couple times but looked like it couldnt, so it finally did on the 3rd try and the POST screen said 2.83Ghz x 8.5.

Then after windows loaded I opened cpuz and it said my memory was running at 533Mhz not 400Mhz, and, all the timings where different. I checked ET6 and it said my cpu was running at 2.83Ghz x 8.5 and my ram was at 2.00B multi and 1066Mhz, im like wtf

So I then exited out of windows and went back into BIOS and got the red warning box that my OC and voltage failed or something. I then noticed my cpu multiplier had jumped back up to x8.5 and FSB had stayed at 400Mhz but then also said I was at 3.4Ghz?? But I was just in windows and it read at 2.83Ghz... How can the BIOS say one freq and windows show a different freq?

All the other settings stayed the same in BIOS, I have no idea why the cpu multi jumped back up to x8.5 and why I was then running at 1066 ram speed?

Can anyone explain to me what might have just happend LOL, cause I have no clue what it did and why, I am back at my original settings now (as I saved them to cmos before trying the OC).

thanx for any info guys, wow my head hurts lol

With multiple boots the computer finally boots with some settings that worked before or something it could find that will boot not waht you set. Tou must then enter MIT and change them untill you succeessfully boot at 1st attempt.

Try the 2.00D, you can also increase PLL and Vtt one tick up.
tRD 8 should work but you can try 9 or 10 to see if this is the problem.
Also set CPU Ration to 7 for no overclock so vcore is out of the equasion.

I intetionally suggested OC in steps as you are new to this, and it's how I would do it anyway. There are enough parameters involved in OCing FSB alone.

When your system can't deal with your bios settings, this will often result in a reboot loop.
Many times the only way your system can boot is if it is automatically reset to default bios settings.
This is what you saw when your system finally booted.

If you have boot screen logo disabled in your bios, you will see the applied cpu and memory speeds when you power on your system. If you see default speeds during the initial boot screen, you will know that your overclocked settings did not take. If you immediately go into the bios MIT screen, you will be greeted with the red warning box. You will probably find that your previous bios settings are still displayed, but these settings weren't applied.

VTT = CPU Termination

MCH Core = 1.22 or 1.24 might be needed.
CPU Vcore-----_____-----1.25000v--------: [1.xxxxx]
If your bios screen looks like ^^^ above, your CPU VID is 1.25000 volts.

When you post your full bios settings, you can select (highlight) all the of the bios settings, and then click on the "#" icon to wrap [CODE] tags around selected text. This results in your bios template being displayed in a more compact scrollable window.

Default Re: Noob here tryin to OC my Q9550 for first time :D

Ok here it goes again, this time I made the following changes so that there would be no OC to start with and it booted just fine the 1st time.

- set FSB to 400Mhz

-set CPU muliplier to 7 and fine cpu clock ratio to 0.0 (at 2.8Ghz now)

-changed memory multi to 2.00D strap

- set cpu vcore manually to default 1.25000v

- set cpu pll up a tick to 1.57v

- set vtt up a tick to 1.22v

- left DRAM voltage manually at 2.0v

-left MCH core manually set at 1.2v (what I had before)

- set tRD to 8

So it booted first time now just fine, so I am assuming maybe I could try upping my fine cpu clock ratio to 0.5 to make it 7.5 and running at 3.0 Ghz? (for a mild 1st OC) Or whichever suggestion you think is best next

thanx again all ^^

You can try set ratio to 7.5 or 8, I believe it didn't boot mainly due to the B multiplier, it doesn't always work.
Before you do see if you can pass 5 loops of IBT maybe an hour of large FFT or OCCT large data set to make sure there are no other tweaking needed to stabilize the higher FSB.
When you raise ratio you may need more vcore, the way i do it is run IBT and make sure it does not fail and results do not flactuate and are with in reason values, using ET6 to raise vcore untill it looks good, then set that value in BIOS, and run Prime95 small FFT, if it fail again I raise vcore eith ET6, after it pass an hour with no errors, set vcore in BIOS again and run nightly blend test.

Default Re: Noob here tryin to OC my Q9550 for first time :D

Ok ran IBT maximum stress for 5 runs 4 threads and output looks great, gflops are still around 35 like before and 0 errors.

I then ran Prime95 for 1 1/2 hours Large FFT's test passed with 0 errors.

So I guess my 400 FSB is good so far, so maybe I should try upping my cpu multi to 7.5 or 8 which ever is the best way to go?

thanx again ^^
