been playin around with my voltages and settings all around this weekend, with a modest overclock of around 3.5 at 1.2975 bios voltage, i get around 64 degrees and this is with HT off. a 3.78 overclock requires about 1.35 bios voltage and takes temps to mid 70's. I am sure my case cooling is sufficient using 3 in and 3 out. Any suggestions as to if it seems this Noctua SE1366 cpu cooler needs to be reseated? From what i've been seeing , this is about 10 degrees difference roughly compared to most others setups. Any ideas?

I am not so sure your temperatures are any different than most peoples. Only compare yours with others using a similar CPU cooler, same ambient temperature, C0 stepping and same voltage. I think mid 70īs are totally normal under 100% load running prime95. I go a bit lower, but that is thanks to a Thermalright IFX-14 CPU cooler with some insane Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000 rpm that delivers 133.6 CFM.

i threw one of those scythe slipstream 110cfm's on and it reduced idle temps about 3 degrees and about 4-5 load. The scythe was pushing and the original noctua fan was doing the pulling. mite go ahead tonite and try using another scythe for the pull, only problem is the pull fan is extremely painful taking out. Isn't really much else i can do now, i have found the minimum voltage for 3.465 which i may stick with since it uses WAY less voltage. Another thing... playing around with my ram, and using the 3.465 clock, i took my memory to 1650 , booted right up awesome... only i cannot remember what , if any voltages i changed to get there. Tried it again last nite and it would get to the windows load screen and BSOD. Another time i thought it was going to windows load screen and it just stayed black.... Any ideas on this one?

Why i think this may be a little off is i see so many places people bragging of 4.0 with 55-65 load and 32 idle, like evreywhere. even with C0 chips, i do however also see those with temps comparable to mine and at lower speeds than i.

When I compare your temps to peter's from the previous page they look fine. He is using a significantly more powerfull fan with 3k RPM and 38mm depth versus your two Noctuas. So just below 70 for him and mid 70s for you makes sense.
You can try reseating your Noctua, but I doubt it will provide much of a gain ( I would still try anyway^^). That's also one of the reasons I really like the Noctua cooler, the mounting sytem makes it one of the easiest coolers to reseat. Reseating is very important if you want the best cooling performance. You should always do several installs of a cooler if you really care about temps and note down your temps for each mount. That way you can be sure that your cooler is properly mounted. Peter also described that his temps went down by 10C after he remounted the cooler with less thermal paste. He thought this was due to the thinner layer of thermal paste, but that doesn't provide that much of a gain in my experience. I'm positive that his heatsink just wasn't making contact properly with his CPU.

"As a result, the NF-P12 provides no less than 1.68 mm H2O at 1300 rpm, which is something that other fans merely achieve at 1600 rpm or more."
scythe forums 1600RPM -- 1.46mmAq 1900RPM -- 2.30mmAq im gonna mount both my scythes on the heatsink after seeing this, thanks for the input Nickel. I know my temps are not horrible, i guess i was just expecting more. Thanks!

If you have a fan in the case door you might want to consider some kind of an air duct. Feeding the CPU fan 5C cooler air will also result in a reduction of the CPU temp by about 5C.
You should always be careful with the manufacturer specifications on fans. The dB values are always completely worthless since they never specify at which distance they measured, a value which is absolutely crucial when measuring noise. The other conditions are also always never specified (how is the fan mounted, inside a case, outside, freely?) making those measurement completely useless. Given those facts I wouldn't trust the pressure specifications of the manufacturers. Specs:
1. i7-920 C0 2. 3.84Ghz (183x21) @ 1.248v (Stock) 3. Thermalright TRUE Cooler /w Everflow 2400RPM/110CFM fan Idle Temp: 40C Load Temp: 80C (using LinX - gets hotter than Prime95) From your guys temps, clearly a re-seating is required if I get 80C at stock voltages with my Thermalright TRUE and upgraded fan, although my ambient temps are higher too (don't want to pay for A/C electricity lol). I am moving in a week or two so I'll re-seat it then.

The last 2 days the temps here in Detroit have been in the low 90's and the temp in my basement has risen(it's still quite cool) . I ran Prime for 2 hours and max load core temps were 72,70,69,66 so high 60's load temps may of been a little optimistic on my part.
