You do not need SATA drivers for Vista, it will detect AHCI mode automatically. And you should see a nice boost in the speed of your DVD drive while installing. Yes, you just need to make those settings, and set Native mode too. No additional drivers are needed.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I installed the drivers off Gigabytes website anyway during the reinstall, would this miss anything up? It all seems to be booting nicely and working well. Also do I need any sata drivers installed in windows now that I am using ACHI mode?

Hi,

Right ok, I think I might have solved this, before it displays that message it does dectect the drives and says what channel they are on, and it also says ACHI enabled BIOS as well. I tried plugging a SATA drive into the purple port and that message did not come up it showed as the drive being dected. Does this mean that it has found the other devices but it cannot find anything connected to the purple ports and that could be why its displaying that message?

Exactly. You can turn AHCI for the purple ports off if you don't use them, i believe it's the one that has the IDE/RAID option, haven't been in that part of the BIOS for pretty long. Set it to IDE and that message will be gone.

Hello

Thanks for your reply

Is it this setting Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl mode and set to disable? On the next installtion of windows I wont bother loading SATA drivers from Gigabytes website am I correct in thinking that this does not make any difference? Also are the purple ports faster than the orange ports?

Vista is still dectecting the drives as ATA but it is all set up right in the BIOS so I think its all running in ACHI mode.

The purple ports are on the JMicron controller, the orange ones are Intel native. The orange ones are a bit faster. Just a second, i'll take a look in my BIOS. Edit: Yes, the Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl controls the purple ports. You can set it to Disabled.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I have now removed the scanning for the purple ports.

At boot up it is dectecting the hdds and disk drive, and it confirms that the BIOS is ACHI enabled.

In Vista's Device Manger it is displaying the drives as ATA is this corrrect does this mean they will still function in ACHI mode?

Can you let me know,

Thanks,

Wiz-kid

Here's how it looks on my computer. If you have the AHCI controller listed then it's all fine.
