Sorry to bother you all with noob questions, but it's sort of on topic. I thought of it because we were talking about RAM freq. So, the spec on the GA-X48-DS5 that I have says that it can run DDR2 @ 1200MHz. I want to do this obviously, and if you check out the signature I was trying to do that with my RAM choice. However, 1200MHz is too damn expensive, and I can get these chips for about half the cost of 1200 at only 100MHz performance cost: OCZ Titanium XMP 4096MB PC9200 DDR2 1150MHz Dual Channel Memory - 2x2048MB at TigerDirect.com Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI - Desktop Memory What would you do? Also, getting the RAM to perform at 1200 is something I've never done before, and it is a little intimidating Any pointers on that? Surprise, I'm a new overclocker! Does anyone have a good template for the DS5 that I can use with my 9550 to OC this RAM and CPU w/o getting crazy high temps? I really appreciate it! Sincerely, Sam

What I'd do is forget all about PC9200 RAM, or for that matter anything above PC8500. You will not notice any difference unless you really want to push RAM speeds just for fun, and see bigger numbers in synthetic benchmarks.
Your Q9550 has a high enough multiplier for you to be comfortable with DDR-1066. Your CPU will top out well before you get over 1066 on a 2.0 multi. If you did buy some DDR-1200 you could I suppose run a 500 FSB (if your CPU will go that high) and a 2.4 RAM multi for DDR-1200, but like I say, there'll be zero gain between that and running DDR-1000. You'd be much better off getting a decent quality set of PC-8500 and spending any extra cash on a better CPU cooler. I'm not saying the Freezer Pro is crap, but it's almost certainly going to hold you back a little.

Im interested in how you go with this setup. Crazy ram speeds are not on my agenda, but getting some form of respectable overclock out of my Q9550 on my X48-DS5 board would be good. I have had an E8500 on the X48-DS5 Humming nicely @ 3.8ghz on stock volts just upping the FSB to 400Mhz. I think my Q9550 is a lemon, but it will be interesting to see what you can get. If you need a full BIOS settings profile then Ill dig one up for you. Just be sure to set the important things manually when you go to overclock. Like CPU Volts and Ram Volts and timings.
I agree with Psycho, you would be far better off getting some nice 1066Mhz Ram and spending the extra cash on more storage or something of your choice. I cant tell any different between my 800Mhz or 1066Mhz but thats just me.
