Sorry, I have never used quads on P45's, only Duals (8400 and E3110)

Yes those buttons are nice in DS4P, also come in X58 boards from DS4P onwards too.

I love my clear CMOS button, Of course I used to just hookup my case reset switch and do the same, but it is nice having the buttons already made into the board.

Now if we could only get them to add a set of voltage read points in a nice little confined area that would be great!
hookup my case reset switch ? How do you do that?

Unplug your case reset switch from the motherboard header you have it connected to now for reset and then just plug it into the Clear CMOS Pins and you will be set.

Then when you want to clear your CMOS just press your case reset switch for a minute or so.

Anytime!!

It works nicely! I see many shops selling "CMOS Reset" Switches, this is exactly that! They just realize no one notices this as an option so they can make a few $$

Got it up and running, Im using this ram.
Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2K2/4G - Desktop Memory
Do you have a template for 3.8? Running the Q9550

Ouch, your the second person this week to link me to that ram. Very high voltages spec'd for that speed

Try this for 3.8, ram overclocked or underclocked, see notes on this and decide or try both ways

Code:
Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
Fine Clock Ratio ____________[0.5]
CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [450]
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00B or 2.40B] You may be able to run 1080, not sure about this ram due to the way it is rated. So if that gives you issues please use 2.00B for 900Mhz.
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

Performance Enhance = [Standard]

CAS Latency Time________________ 5
Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 4/5
Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______4/5
Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 12/15/18

If you are running 900Mhz then you may be able to use 544-12/15/18, if you are running 1080 then you will likely have to use 555-15/18

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ 3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________ 3-6
Write to Precharge Delay_________ 4-6
Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 52-64
Read to Precharge Delay__________ 3-5
Static tRead Value_______________ 7-8
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ [Auto]

CPU/PCIEX Clock Driving Control [800mV]
CPU Clock Skew Control [normal]
GMCH Clock Skew Control [Normal]

System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.300V] = 2.1V, I suggest trying this first as any more is very hot. If your ram is made with Cheap IC chips then it may need 2.2-2.3V to run spec, if this turns out to be the case I DO suggest a fan over the ram
PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V]
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.2-0.3V]
CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.xx] << All up to your CPU, maybe try 1.3-1.46

Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]
No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Disabled]
C2/C2E State Support....................: [Disabled]
x C4/C4E State Support..................: [Disabled]
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Enabled]
CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled]
Virtualization Technology................: [Disabled] Enabled if you use Vmware/Virtual PC

Integrated Peripherals
Legacy USB Storage Detect___________________[Disabled] *Note* Must be enabled to flash from USB

Hey all!

Sorry to bother you all with noob questions, but it's sort of on topic. I thought of it because we were talking about RAM freq. So, the spec on the GA-X48-DS5 that I have says that it can run DDR2 @ 1200MHz. I want to do this obviously, and if you check out the signature I was trying to do that with my RAM choice. However, 1200MHz is too damn expensive, and I can get these chips for about half the cost of 1200 at only 100MHz performance cost:

OCZ Titanium XMP 4096MB PC9200 DDR2 1150MHz Dual Channel Memory - 2x2048MB at TigerDirect.com

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI - Desktop Memory

What would you do?

Also, getting the RAM to perform at 1200 is something I've never done before, and it is a little intimidating Any pointers on that?

Surprise, I'm a new overclocker! Does anyone have a good template for the DS5 that I can use with my 9550 to OC this RAM and CPU w/o getting crazy high temps?

I really appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Sam

What I'd do is forget all about PC9200 RAM, or for that matter anything above PC8500. You will not notice any difference unless you really want to push RAM speeds just for fun, and see bigger numbers in synthetic benchmarks.

Your Q9550 has a high enough multiplier for you to be comfortable with DDR-1066. Your CPU will top out well before you get over 1066 on a 2.0 multi. If you did buy some DDR-1200 you could I suppose run a 500 FSB (if your CPU will go that high) and a 2.4 RAM multi for DDR-1200, but like I say, there'll be zero gain between that and running DDR-1000.

You'd be much better off getting a decent quality set of PC-8500 and spending any extra cash on a better CPU cooler. I'm not saying the Freezer Pro is crap, but it's almost certainly going to hold you back a little.

Im interested in how you go with this setup. Crazy ram speeds are not on my agenda, but getting some form of respectable overclock out of my Q9550 on my X48-DS5 board would be good. I have had an E8500 on the X48-DS5 Humming nicely @ 3.8ghz on stock volts just upping the FSB to 400Mhz. I think my Q9550 is a lemon, but it will be interesting to see what you can get. If you need a full BIOS settings profile then Ill dig one up for you. Just be sure to set the important things manually when you go to overclock. Like CPU Volts and Ram Volts and timings.

I agree with Psycho, you would be far better off getting some nice 1066Mhz Ram and spending the extra cash on more storage or something of your choice. I cant tell any different between my 800Mhz or 1066Mhz but thats just me.

If you do get a set anyway, I'd suggest the G.Skill ones
