Altering SPD Table

Hello Kingston, first off welcome to the forum


I have a question about my HyperX 6400 (pic in comp thread) and cpu-z (see pic below)

It's not major but as you can see cpu-z is reading the modules as PC2 5300 (333MHz)

I read somewhere (that now eludes me) that this could be corrected by editing the SPD table.

Any tips for me on how to achieve this?

Well it would be a nice feature to have one of the premier ram producers on the forum to provide tech support though their product is so good they probably won't have much to do.

Thanks for choosing Kingston.

Please be informed that you need to adjust the BIOS to reach the advertised speed, but kindly note that not all motherboards can reach the advertised speed. Before you adjust the BIOS, the SPD is programmed to JEDEC standard latency 667Mhz, and this is why you confused with the modules, take KHX6400D2/1G as an example, please refer to the description in the datasheets below.

From the description in datasheet, the Latency Timing should be set at 5-5-5-15 at 2.0V. and DRAM spec (CPU:DRAM) might need to adjust to reach the advertised speed.

Please check on our website to find the datasheet in accordance with your purchased HyperX.

My modules are the KHX6400D2LL/1G 1GB 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC Low-Latency CL4 4-4-4-12 2.0V

Data sheet:

Bios is set to DDR2 800





Yet the max bandwidth is still reported as PC2 5300

I was basing my query on this:

Q: Why does CPU-Z misreport my memory module specification ? For example, my DDR PC3500 is reported as PC3200.
A: The SDR and DDR theorical bandwidth is computed using the module access time information for the maximal CAS# latency value, included in the SPD area. If the computed bandwidth is lower than the one specified on the memory module, that means in most cases that the SPD information on the module is not correctly programmed, and does not mean that the memory module does not handle its specifications.
