Default Toughbook cf-18 + runcore v4

finally, i got my drive on saturday.
it works but it was not easy...
1. i do not have internet at home and the acronis cloning software need an online-activation :-(
2. my laptop (panasonic toughbook cf-18) doesn't have floppy or optical drive

so after some hours of test, i got to install winxp using an bootable usb key

as you can see, i think there is a little problem regarding sequential read/write : the seagate (5400rpm) is faster than the runcore !

i check the configuration panel, and windows configures the ssd in dma mode 2 whereas the seagate was in mode 5

there is nothing to "tune" in the motherboard bios and i tried to reinstall the "disk controller manager" with no result

performance is not an issue in my case, but i wish i could get the best from the runcore ssd

1) nobody cares about sequential speed, you use it once, and never again.

2) it is very possible in sequential read/write a HD is faster than a SSD.
The fastest SSD ever, intel, are not fast in seq write compared to a HD in sequential write.

3) they 32MB cap may indicate you are in UDMA mode 2 (cap at 33 MB).
You can look at device driver on the hard disk controller to see if it is the case...

1) when you copy large files, it's always good to have the max speed (even if it is a mix between sequential and random read/write)

2) current SSD have à 200+ cap in sequential read (sata)
in the case of pata, it's the interface that limits. the runcore v4 should run at 80Mb if i am correct

3) i already checked it and wrote it in the previous post, and it is my question : is it normal ? what are the solution to force dma mode 5 ?

1) even copying large file is muc closer to random than sequential. Your big file is not sequential actualy!
U can use it only once when you copy a whole partition.

2) yes i didn't see u were in dma mode 2.

open regedit, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\00001\

and tell me the value of MasterDeviceTimingModeAllowed
(this should be fffffffff - fulll of f for maximal perf)
and of MasterDeviceTimingMode (that should be dma mode 2, so something like 000011FF or so, i dont rem.)

Hi bgxmmx, here are my values (hexa) :

MasterDeviceTimingModeAllowed = ffffffff
MasterDeviceTimingMode = 00002010

its weird, windows allow indeed udma mode 7... then i dont know :).

it is not very problematic again...

i would try to take the disk out of the TB and put it back, may be it is not so well connected, and the speed is reduced to ensure reliability...
