need for speed 3 on xp

how long ago did you buy your NFS 3?
if it was recently (within the last 2 years or so) then you will probably have the windows xp patch as part of the installer, i dont because i got the game when it was first released

NFS 3 installed on my XP Pro system fine but only after buying a new computer and installing it BEFORE installing directx 9. After it was installed I had to install directx 9 for a capture device and now though NFS 3 still runs the video is a bit jittery where it wasnt under directx 8. Before buying this new computer I had tried installing onto an XP Pro computer that had long had directx 9 installed before the NFS 3 install. I was unable to get it to run at all on that machine even with using compatability. I love NFS 3 and am happy to have it in but if possible depending how badly you want NFS 3 on your computer you might try a fresh install of XP and put NFS 3 in before grabbing directx 9.

theres no way im reformating again i only did it about 2 months ago.
im gonna put 98 onto my second computer wheni get the chance, ive been meanin to do it for ages but havent had the chance.
damn i want to play it again, its one of my favorite in the nfs series

NFS:Hot Pursuit (NFS3) works fine on my XP Pro rig. Wierd.. High Stakes requires some wierd tweaking, but that's the only one.. Do you have the latest patch for NFS3? (if there was one, i forget).

ive seen that the new budget version of the game has a patch for xp but noone anywhere has ever heard of a patch.
if anyone knows where to find the patch please let me know

Tesco (UK supermarket) is currently selling the win xp compatable version of nfs3 hot pursuit for £2.91. Brings back some fond menories. Just picked it up yesterday (30th July). Works great on my 1.7 Gig laptop through a projector. My wife and I were chasing each other round for hours. The only game I can get her to play (on the computer! heh heh)

im not paying 3 quid to get the game to work when ive already paid 30 for it.
is there any way you could get the exe file on the net so that i could grab a copy of it?
i think its only the exe needed for xp compatibilty, not sure though

I know this is a little late, but I found this thread when I was googling because NFS3 didn't wanna run on my XP Pro.

A friend of mine found a solution after I've given up.

I've raced a couple of laps with the Ferrari 355 (I think it was) and I now realize this is the best racing game of eternity!

Still a great game, very playable, love the two player split screen option ( wish more games had that ) , some great track designs with short cuts and jumps, very very memorable game.. playing again brings back good memories.... but it plays a lot better than plenty of more recent race games with 'ultra realistic' graphics... the whole design of this game from menus, music, tracks, cars, colours...everything..energetic and fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.. future game developers please take note of this classic! Have fun ! Cheers!
