newbie, just built this:
GA-EX58-UD5P
i7 920
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3
Bios recognizes 6 GB mem, but Vista 64 Sys Info does not:
Installed Physical Memory: Not Available
Total Phys Memory: 2 GB
Available Phys mem: 5.05 GB
Total virtual mem 12.1 GB
Available Virtual mem: 6.29
how to reconcile?
Thanks
phil

Please post a screenshot! I have a German Windows so I'm not 100% sure which menu (taskmanager?)you're talking about. If it is the task manager then it sounds right, Winwows and whatevery programs you're running may use about 1GB, so add that to "available physical memory" and you get 6GB. :)
computer is on bench and can't get a screenshot at the moment, but the list in my original post is verbatim, taken not from Task manager, but from System Information: All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information > System Summary
Installed Physical Memory: Not Available
Total Phys Memory: 2 GB
Available Phys mem: 5.05 GB
Total virtual mem 12.1 GB
Available Virtual mem: 6.29
thanks for the reply

Yep, I just checked and it's as I said. Open some program then launch the System Summary again and you'll see that available physical memory has gone down.
I understand that installed devices and running apps can lower the available memory number, so 5.05 GB out of 6 may be appropriate. What i don't understand now are these two values:
Installed Physical Memory: Not Available
Total Phys Memory: 2 GB
why "not available" and why only 2 GB?
thnx

There have been some issues where some of the X58 boards haven't seen all the installed memory.
Double check that you have installed the memory in the correct slots, for say Tri-channel setup.
Two other things to check:-
1) See what the Bios POST screen says in regards to the memory count. (You may need to disable the Gigabtye logo in the bios to see this)
2) Ensure Vista Service Pack 1 is installed (if it isn't).
GA-P35C-DS3R Rev2.0 F11 bios, E8200 (@3.0Ghz), OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Reaper 4GB (@1200Mhz), Xonar D1, 8800GTS 512, Corsair HX520 (Single 12volt line, Max 40A), WDC 3200aaks/5000aaks in AHCI mode, Vista 64 Premium.
i can confirm Vista 64 Ultimate srvce pack 1
mem chips are installed per manual in DDR3_1, DDR3_3 and DDR3_5 slots
as stated earlier, bios recognizes 6 GB mem
The "System and Maintenance > Welcome Center" splash screen that Vista throws up also shows 6 GB mem installed
this time checked Task Manager:
Physical Memory (MB)
Total 6140
Cached 528
Free 4961
as far as Post screen, i can hit Tab during the Gigabyte splash screen for Post screen, but it runs thru 2 pages almost too quick to read, but does mention something like Memory Testing 6290432 OK
Saw similar issue mentioned elsewhere, suggested msconfig>boot tab>Advanced> make sure the "Maximum memory" checkbox is unchecked and this is so.
But, System Information still reads the same
So, 3 of 4 sources appear to confirm the 6GB mem, except for the System Information. That seems promising, but this will nag at me that I may or may not be taking full advantage of the 6GB and that not all reporting is on the same page.
i thank you all for your assistance![]()

Doesn't sound like you have a problem to me...Physical Memory (MB)
Total 6140
Yep, sounds solved!
If you see 6GB in taskmanager, and or Everest then you are using 6GB. Vista resources, Such as system info and System Properties often report things wrong (Such as ram or CPU Speeds) so do not worry about what they say.
