Doesn't really matter about the condition of your DATA drive as far as saving and restoring the image goes. As long as there's as much free space as there is data on the drive to be imaged then it's fine.
For ISO's I use ImgBurn.
There is no free version of Acronis. I don't know if there's a trial version though. I erm.... found my copy in a bush.......
