Help me Wipeout Intel SSD with HDDerase

Now thats crystal clear. Lol lastly, would it be wise to format my data drive as i no longer use it, defrag it, then place the image on it?

What program do u use to burn iso's? i currently use cdburnerxp which has worked great in the past. And where can i find Acronis (free version)?

Doesn't really matter about the condition of your DATA drive as far as saving and restoring the image goes. As long as there's as much free space as there is data on the drive to be imaged then it's fine.

For ISO's I use ImgBurn.

There is no free version of Acronis. I don't know if there's a trial version though. I erm.... found my copy in a bush.......

lol errmmm bush... i just downloaded it from Backup software for data backup and disaster recovery in Windows and Linux - Acronis --- true image home 2010. I wish you were around before we lost my bro's Mobo. Nobody seemed to want to help... Think i got all my disk's / software prepared and ready to go. gonna do a trial run and image my SSD to the HDD , see if it im doing it right. Thanks again bro. I owe u dude...

alright, ICH SATA contol mode was already set to IDE and SATA port 0-3 native mode was already set to disabled ( legacy IDE mode) so i should be good to go as far as BIOS besides switching first boot device to CD-ROM .

got everything i need all set on the Win 7 SSD switch, just need a version of Acronis to work. Guess the trial one wont let you use the option of imaging... nasty . Any other free programs out there that are well known and reputable?

I'd check that Acronis doesn't let you image with the trial version. Runcore give a trial version away, and it allows cloning, so should work.

When you install Win 7, I'd enable AHCI and native mode. AHCI, unlike on a normal HDD does improve speeds across the board, especially random read/write at all data sizes. x25-m cache|align|ahci on versus off - PC Perspective Forums

Ill try out the Runcore trial version. What about windows7 imaging program. Any good? Any idea? I mite just go nuts n' pick up retail Acronis , found it for $40. Sure it will come in handy in the future and not just one use.

Again , anybody trust the Windows7 backup imaging?

Dude don't even bother with wiping. First of all, regardless of what you do, you're going to accumulate writes. Even if all you do is have your pc sit idle its accumulating writes.

The X-25m controllers are very good at defragging themselves as they go. The performance drop going from brand new to used is only like 10 percent and its still almost 3x the performance other SSDs have in their best case scenario.

What I'm saying is, maybe other ssds may be able to notice a performance difference after being wiped, (they go from something like 3mb/s random write to 13mbs random write and are still reported to be super fast), the intel ssds go from 44mb/s to 35mb/s random write worst case scenario. You will never ever ever notice it because nothing you do specifically tailors to random writes to such a degree (certain things with your OS does, but again they are designed to work with hard drives that work at 100x slower random writes than that). In addition, wiping does nothing significant for sequential writes either.

Finally, look man as soon as you install win7, your ssd will automatically defrag itself with the trim command. So get over it. Save your time andyour effort.

Get over it , i will. One reason im going through all this is to learn new things. If something bad happens to a drive for whatever reason, i will know how to restore it. I can read read read, but nothing sticks to ur brain than actually doing it yourself.
