GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R - No Video Output

Good day:

My computer is not displaying video output. I have removed the graphics card, placed it in another computer and it works fine. I put another graphics card from the other computer into the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R motherboard and it also did not output any video. All of the fans turn on, including the one of the graphics card, case fans, CPU fan, and power supply, but there is no video output. Not even a POST screen, which makes me inclined to point at the motherboard. I intentionally mis-seated the graphics card to see if I could get something, and it did beep six times, as it is supposed to according to the manual. However, when I seated it properly I got NO beeps at all. I am not sure what this means.

are you using the latest bios? and did you set first initial display or peg1 as pci-e#1?

The minimum power requirement for the X1950 is 450watt and +12v rating of 30amps.

The power supply doesn't have the minimum amperage to run the card.

i ran a x1950 pro card on a 300w psu for years,it might not have enough wattage on the 6/4pin connector to the gpu though

I have a Revision 1 motherboard with a F9 or F10 Bios; I cannot remember which offhand (and I'm unable to check, unfortunately). I am not sure what is meant by "set first initial display or peg1 as pci-e#1," as this motherboard has no on-board video, and only one PCI x16 slot.

I'm not sure I buy that it's the power supply, though this was my first thought, too. I've had this setup for three years, and I'm not even pushing my card that hard. I used to run Unreal Tournament 3 and Crysis all the time in its first year without issues, but today it's just desktop applications and the occasional World of Warcraft raid. I haven't ruled this out yet, though all the components do "power on," it's possible the six-pin connector died; I'll have to get out my multimeter to figure that out, though.

It's definitely not the PSU, unless it's faulty. 450W and a 30A 12V rail will be for the whole system, not the GPU alone. I doubt the GPU will be drawing more than 150W at the very very maximum, probably considerably less. Do as you say and check the PSU's outputs, including the 24 pin ATx as this connector provides the GPU with its initial ~75W via the PCIe slot too.

If everything seems fine, isit possible to use the same PC you got the spare GPU out of to test all the pther components?

Try booting with just a single stick of RAM first, then remove the GPU and take a good look at the slot to see if there are any damaged pins. Also you can try removing and inserting the card several times as this will clean the connectors of any oxidisation that may have built up on them. Not usually a prroblem even in hot parts of the US and europe, but if humidity is high then it can help. A friend of mine was in Taipe for 6 months teaching English as a Second Language, when he got back there was actually a fair bit of rust on the back of his HD4870 and an Intel network card was pretty brown too.

If still no luck, start by testing the CPU, then RAM, then both in the donor PC. After that, try the donor PC's CPU and RAM in your board along with a known good vid card. If still no look then I'd strongly suspect a dead slot or indeed even another problem altogether stopping the board POSTing. Also use the PSU from the donor PC to rule out yours.

• Swapped the ram with the donor PC and ran Memtest; everything seems in good working order
• The PCI slot seems okay; it's tough to tell, but the pins on the card are definitely tip top. It graphics works fine in the donor PC.
• I cannot swap the CPU, as the donor PC is an AMD board.
• The 6-pin output tested fine on the multimeter before I realized that the donor card that also failed to work didn't require a 6-pin connector, so I didn't really need to get out the multimeter.

I've bought a GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3Lreplacement board to see if it is indeed the motherboard. I'm not too excited about the additional work and cost, but it seems the most likely cause of all the issues at this point. At worst I end up paying a restocking fee if it's not the cause of the problems.

Another test option for your system is to install an older pci video card in one of the unused pci slots.
If the older gfx card isn't an ATI/Radeon card, your system should still work to let you get into the bios.
You should test your system with a borrowed power supply.
You might need to do some testing by following the suggestions in I'm New and my GA-EP45-UD3P won't POST Help!, post #2.

Is this a new monitor also?

If so hook it up to another PC and be sure it's set to how you are connecting it to the card, DVI or HDMI, ect.

Then if all looks well I would try clearing the CMOS for an extended period and see if that fixes it.

I received my new motherboard a couple days ago and finally got everything hooked up last night. The specs are the same save for the motherboard. Everything worked perfectly and I played World of Warcraft for a few hours last night and shut it down. This morning when my wife went to turn it on it got the exact error described in the post you linked, except without the beeping. Just power cycling with no Post or video output.

I used all the default Bios settings except one: I upped the voltage on my Ram from 1.8V to 2.0V (that particular ram is rated for 2.2V, though I had it at 1.8V on the prior mobo). I am going to try clearing the CMOS and removing the memory sticks to hopefully get into the Bios so I can reset the Voltage.

Reading through the entirety of the thread linked by profJim, though, it seems that the issue was never diagnosed, so any thoughts or speculation are appreciated.
