you mean you set cpu voltage to normal and dvid to +0.0875? doesnt it throttle down to 0.920v or round abouts when idle? like in my above screenshot of cpu-z?

if not then look in windows/Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options and select balanced profile,it should reduce cpu speed and volts at idle but not when under load

its normal for cpu-z to show slightly lower cpu voltage than whats set in the bios,this is due to vdroop under load and its normal

Sorry for getting you into trouble, by mistake I set 1.375 instead of 1.1375. Now everything works as expected with lower values.

CPU set to NORMAL, DVID is now selectable and set to +1.1125V (so it gives 1.25V @ 100% CPU load). Will check for stability. For now it opens and works at very low temp 15-23 degrees at idle...

yes if its stable you can try to lower more,but 1.072 at idle will be right for the total voltage needed

Now, stabilized it at DVID +0.1625V. All Previous voltages were freezing 3dsmax or giving me error 0x000000101. Max temperature is at 51 degrees peak on 100% load for 10 consecutive minutes. Idles again in 15-23 degrees (varies on each Core).

CPU-Z idle voltage is 1.104V while peak is @ 1.280V. Probably I can lower the normal a bit more and calculate it for peak around 1.3V.

Of course, with these temperatures I should go for clocking around 4.6GHz or more, but that's for tomorrow!

So far, so good! Overclocking seems to be more than... a weeks project... :)

Before I went to some extreme cooling solution. I found using lower blk speeds and higher multipliers was the best way to go to get higher memory speeds. This is due to being only able to set the memory multiplier in increments of 2 and needing an QPI clock ratio of twice the memory speed +1 or 2.

The settings I found to work were a CPU voltage of 1.3 V a QPI PLL voltage of 1.2V and a QPI/VTT voltage of 1.415 and of course run the memory at the rated voltage of 1.66V.

Doing this I could get a BLK speed of 155 with a memory multiplier of 12 giving a memory speed of 1880. I then set the QPI clock ratio to 21 and the CPU clock ratio to 24.

Best of luck.

High BLKs are not the best to get high memory speeds.

Man, thanks for the info. Yes, I also noticed myself that keeping lower BLCK speed and higher multipliers is the way to go.

I stand corrected for previous reports about temperature. "Real Temp" wasn't so... real about its indications. Probably needed a kind of refresh. Now, Core Temperatures are shown correctly, idles at 33-40 and max load at 65-71.
I thinks these values are acceptable for peaks and it seems to perform stable enough when being at 100% load.

i keep eist enabled but disable c1e and let windows throttle the cpu through balanced power profile,i prefer my cpu to run cool when im not doing much and full speed when im pushing things,its just the same principle as the newer graphic cards,they throttle down when not gaming

it does nothing to lower load temps but helps alot when the cpu is idling

Isn't the system slow browsing the web or normal stuff like that with the CPU throttled down?

I just never used speedstep or anything like that because when I have tried it in the past, everything seemed really slow since the PC was at idle a lot of the time.

it seems just as quick,its at 12x200=2.400mhz when idle so its not far off stock clocks really,and anything strenuous like games or file searching it switches to 21x200=4.2mhz,it switches speeds pretty quick though

i forgot to add that i can always change the power profile in windows to high performance if i want a constant full 4.2ghz speed,if i select balanced it will throttle at idle but not at load,this works with or without c1e enabled in the bios but it does need eist to be enabled,it saves going into the bios
when you want the cpu to throttle down or not by enabling c1e or disabling it

if i set the cpu voltage to a fixed amount and not use dvid i wouldnt be able to throttle the cpu or run it at full speed in windows power saving options
