Memory Utilization - i7 triple channel controller/GB P55A-UD6 has four memory slots
Hi - I have a Gigabyte motherboard (P55A-UD6) with four memory slots. I have an i7 860 @ 2.8 GHz CPU. I'm hearing that i7 has triple channel memory and have read things about using 3 Gb or 6 Gb configurations. So, my question is am I better to go with 6 Gb or 8 Gb? Does going with 8 Gb cause memory to be slower than I'd want or is it always better to go with more memory...?
Re: Memory Utilization - i7 triple channel controller/GB P55A-UD6 has four memory slo
only x58 mb's support triple channel memory,p55 and h55/57 support dual channel,4gb of dual channel should be plenty on your mb,you could use 8gb dual channel if you wanted but no need really imo
if you did go for 8gb it would be better to buy a matched 8gb kit as they will have more chance of running at their rated speed/timings than two seperate 4gb kits
you can of coarse use 6gb of ram but it would run in dual channel not triple
