Default Using Marvell controller on a GA-X58A-UD5 v1.0 (Bios F6)for RAID 0 with SATAIII SSD's

So anyone here using Sata3 SSD's on the Marvell controller on this MB? Right now I'm using SataII SSD's on the intel controller and was thinking of doubling my speeds and going SATAIII.

I'd be getting (2) drives to run a RAID0. anyone have issues with this that I should know before I drop $300-$500 on new drives?

    Vin

EDIT: and this would be for my OS drive and primary run partition btw.

The marvel controller on these boards is not the greatest. You will see better performance on the sata II connectors then you would on the sata III.

Here is a review our great leader LSD did to show the difference sataII vs SataIII single vs raid. Its a different motherboard and ssd's but still similar.

i recently did this, skip using the marvel controller they're rubbish when used in raid sata 6g mode

the Intel controllers are reliably faster, even in sata 3g mode

i was struggling to get 280 mb/s out of my vertex 3 raid on the marvel controller when the individual disks are rated for 400+

i instantly got over 500 when using the intel controllers in sata 3gbs mode and a little more with tweaks

after researching on-line, i found even the best sata 6gbs controllers available ( the highpoint controllers, at that point ) struggle to unleash the power of high speed drives in raid-0 setup

mileage will vary, and performance will improve with new controllers but don't get your hopes up too high
