Can we get an official response from Gigabyte regarding cold boot loop problem hitting the P67 / Z68 boards??

I "revive" the thread, cause i am another one frustrated user...
Z77X-D3H (rev 1.0) and 2600K.. 1st with F8 bios of m/b, afterwards, with F16, and lately with F17a, no matter what.. even with loading defaults.. the cold boot problem is here..., i have to unplug the cord.. and pray to god/allah/whatever/ ,to post. any solution, besides to changing MANUFACTURER (not model..)?

what amount of dram and cpu/vtt voltages are you using?

Voltages are irrelevant... because it shows the same behaviour.. even with load defaults... (even 1333 the ram, instead of 1600..)

2x8gb HyperX blue (1600C10), vtt/vcssa stock values(1.05/0.925), have tried with lowered PLL/Vcore (1.73,offset -0.06), and with stock pll/vid, same problem.. i have to switch off the psu for 5" and then back on, and it boots ok.. but that's not a solution... just a workaround...

even at stock settings/voltages you might have to tweak vtt and dram voltage,it helps to also manually set the bclk to 100mhz and flash the back up bios chip with the main bios press f10 and alt repeatedly at splash screen to do this

i would test with 1.06-1.08v cpu/vtt and one or two clicks more than rated ram voltage,if its still doing it it has to be a bios issue with your cpu and or ram

even at stock settings/voltages you might have to tweak vtt and dram voltage,it helps to also manually set the bclk to 100mhz and flash the back up bios chip with the main bios press f10 and alt repeatedly at splash screen to do this

i would test with 1.06-1.08v cpu/vtt and one or two clicks more than rated ram voltage,if its still doing it it has to be a bios issue with your cpu and or ram

I'll do more testing.. but it seems the flashing to backup bios somehow helped..;) more concrete conclusion, the following days;)

good day. i recently bought a gigabyte motherboard (z77m-dh3 with f12 bios) and got the same cold boot problem. i'm really appalled by the results and decided to e-mail gigabyte via their tech support. and if i may quote with your indulgence, guys (the thread title says p67/z68):

seems like the motherboard is not supplying enough power to the video card.



the main problem: i have problems on boot coming from restarts and cold boots. several attempts pushing the the power button, atleast 4 times, just to make it post. tried shorting the power pins at front header also doesn't work for the first time i attempt to boot up at cold boot. several tries 'though, like the power button does the trick. but doing so, becomes an annoyance.

my motherboard came with f12 bios, flashed it to f13 but still the problem persists. so i thought a simple bios update will resolve my problem. but it didn't.

i recently bought the psu, mems, motherboard and ssd, 2 days ago.

have it tested with the technician from the store i bought it and came up with the same result, using the same motherboard.

the psu and mems were also tested at the store and it ended up alright.

the store replaced the board with the same type on hand but after several hours of assembly and testing today at home, the problem is still the same. i was sure this would boot up, since the motherboard has been newly replaced (a different serial number from the sticker at the back and i/o's). i didn't bother to have it tested due to time constraints.

i also used today a different psu, acbel 560w. an 80plus rated power supply. still ended up with the same results.

the tests were done without the case, properly insulated, full loaded with the hdd+ssd+vc, including under loading it, just the cpu, mems and motherboard.

i also tested the processor with an asrock h67 motherboard, all turned out fine.

tried load optimized defaults on bios and some tinkering related to the power, no good results followed.

so, what gives? does it need a newer bios version? f13 doesn't work. or should i rma it straight to the distributor/reseller? i'm frustrated reading the net (just now, gigabyte forums in particular) about the different types of problems from this board. this, at stock settings for the cpu and mems. the only overclocked item i have on this build is the vc, which is a factory overclocked version of gtx560ti. i ask for your speedy advice since i got tons of rendering jobs to do and little less time in accomplishing them.

i'm baffled at this: there's no option for cpu voltage in bios? pll, etc.? only memory voltage? how am i suppose to overclock this? at least at 4.5ghz. this is like my old h67 mobo, the main reason i adapted to z77 because i slightly want to overclock..

Update 1:

*borrowed a seasonic psu (M12II-750Bronze) from a friend, still the same results.
*tried other bioses (beta and non beta, namely: f9, f11, f12, f13, f14c and f14d), still the same results. done this by using a thumb drive and qflash.
the beta bios were from here: GIGABYTE Latest Beta BIOS

Update 2:

*tried turning off hyper threading and still the same problem persists.
*tried 2500k, IGP only and a lot of combinations of it, same problem persists.
*changed vc, powercolor hd7770, still hard to boot up.


i think this is more than bad batch(es). i hope a bios update can resolve this.
