Can we get an official response from Gigabyte regarding cold boot loop problem hitting the P67 / Z68 boards??

From what I have been reading Gigabyte Z77 boards do not have these boot loops and also Main bios and Back up bios do not have to match. The UD5 and UD3 boards are now have a switch to switch between bios's.

I wish i could confirm that but its not the case (I've a G1.Sniper 3 Z77x based board). I suffer from the same boot cycling loop as the OP described. The only way to fix it is unplugging the power cord for 5 seconds and plugging it back then Dual BIOS protection will kick in (not always), sometimes i get the BIOS settings failure message.

The system is 100% stable after 100 runs of linx (AVX), 12 hours of prime95 27.7 and 6 hours of memtest86+, but just in case i tried stock settings and it still happens.

Obviously the official tech support is telling me the problem is not on my board and it must be something else, too much of a coincidence after reading this entire thread.

I wish i had picked the P8Z77-V DELUXE or Z77x Sabertooth instead....

I Get something like this on my Z77X-UDH5 WiFi. After a cold boot it may either stick on the Megatrends logo at a blinking cursor. Its a crap shoot but only on cold boots. The reset or the power butto I have set to the 4 second option gets it up again. It never does it twice in a row.

I am now running a Z77X-UD3H with a i7-3770k and have no cold boot issues, lock ups or freezes at all. All the post I read are with the p67/z68 or z77 with a 2500,2600k cpus.

Cool. I think it has to do with my overclock on mine. When I go back to stock its fine. Maybe a little more on the core voltage multiplier? Anyone have an idea?

After lots of boots and noting what happens, clocked and not clocked its the same.

I called Gigabyte support and told them the Z77X-UD5H WiFi & 3770K combo was not cold booting.
It would hang at the American Megatrends logo 5% of the time and 95% of the time at the blinking cursor.
I explained the only way to get her up from a cold boot was to fire it up and wait for the hang and then hit the reset button.
I let them know it required this 100% of the time.

He asked me about all my hardware, PSU, GPU, and then my RAM voltage. I told him Samsung Green @ 1.35v/1.50v according to what config, 1GB/2GB/4GB/8GB. He explained it was supposed to be on the sticker. But unless its in code, I do not see a 1.xxv anyplace. Sammy's site shows the 1.35v/1.50v and I have no idea when to use one or the other.

He says take all the RAM out and set the BIOS at the MFG spec. If its 1.50v it's what the board defaults to.
He went on saying put one stick at a time in and see what happens on each stick. If nothing changes call back.

So, I decided to do it @1.35v on each stick and nothing changed.
I then went with a 1.50v manually set and it cold booted no problem for all the sticks one at a time, then with 2 then with 3 then with 4 sticks. Heh!
I then set the voltage on Auto and it still cold boots fine.

I called back to follow up and asked what he thinks happened and he did not have an answer but for a possible card seating issue. I told him I am reading lots of posts across several board models with the same issue. Still no comment explaining anything. Oh well. I'm just glad its all good now.

Actually, I have since then called Samsung tech support to confirm the voltage and it is 1.35v no matter the config, 2x2GB or 4x4GB - whatever. So I went back in and took her down to 1.35v and its still good. **2therock scratches head***

I have a friend who is doing the same build and checked on him and to tell him what I have been through and he has experienced the same cold boot issue and noted his BIOS boot order kept changing from his only two choices #1 optical, #2 OS HDD, to #1 optical, #2 Generic Storage Device, #3 OS HDD.

He had a eSATA external box in the boards back plate eSATA port. When he seen this he unplugged it. It all came back to normal. He also noticed sometimes the boot order will get a mind of its own and try and put a flash drive in the #2 spot moving the OS HDD set to #3. He told me to keep an eye on that because it seems to change at will.

Normally we set this order and never look again but he says not any more.

Damn you should have asked Gigabyte to allow the bios to overclock this samsung ram past 2133. No matter what voltage I give it, it wont boot. And it will work just fine on other systems up to pass 2400-2600.

As for what voltage to set I thought they where good upto 1600 at 1.3v and any thing past was 1.5v-1.65v+. As for 8gb vs 16gb you may have to up vtt and imc voltage.

I read from Sin0822 said to keep vtt and imc 0.005v apart so if you set 1.120v vtt set imc to 1.115v.

As the OP - Just a quick update. I'm still having this issue, 6 months+ later. This is the only system in my house that I can't trust. I've considered buying another motherboard, but they aren't exactly cheap, and it pisses me off to have to toss out this Gigabyte board, which also wasn't cheap...

This whole issue also cost me a client, as I built an Identical system to my own for one of my clients and the system was buggy for more than a month while I tried to troubleshoot the issue (they didn't want to lose all of their software in a reinstall) only for me to end up having to swap that system board out (it fixed the issue).
