Default Bent Pins on X58A-UD5... How did they get bent? Never removed the CPU since install over 2yrs ago.

I've had my X58 rig for a few years now, I installed the CPU the day I bought it... changed the Cooler a few times... recently I have been getting random x101 BSOD so I'd bump up mu vcore up a notch and boot in to windows... if everything was fine, I'd bring the vcore back down.

last night I replaced the H70 I had installed as for some reason my temps were getting out of hand.. and yes I cleaned out the RAD. I installed a Noctra NH-D14 and since I have not been able to boot windows. I can't load the Win7 installation CD, I can't load up a BartPE XPE... always a BSOD x101... I was able to load up ubuntu and it ran fine, but it's lighter than Win7...

Now I removed the CPU for the first time ever since the original installation and it looks like 3-4 bend pins.. Since I have never removed the CPU and only started having issues 8-11months ago, how did these pins get bent?

Tomorrow I'll be getting a better magnifying glass to really have a better look, but how could that happen?

Also, what size mechanical pencil should I get to try and straighten them? was it a 0.25mm or a 0.50mm pencil for a 1366 socket?

    thanks

    Vin

If I remember correctly I believe there was a issues with the cpu sockets on some of the earlier X58 boards. I know it was a issue between the lotus or foxconn sockets. I dont remember what the problem was with out looking it up. But I think people were getting burnt marks on the cpu pads but I could be wrong.

When I started to read your post it almost sounded like a problem I was or still am having. I RMAed my PSU and while it was away, I reconfigured my water loop. I never touched the cpu but noticed higher core temps and the system was not stable at while overclocked. I remounted the block 4 times and notice little bit better temps but still not right. I had to drop my overclock down and it required a little more voltage then before. This is on my current board the X58A-OC board so I know the socket issue is no longer. I think my cpu just happened to degrade or something.

Edit - Just re-read your title and saw you have a X58A-UD5. So the socket issue should not be a issue for you either. If you dont mind it would help out alot of you could fill in your complete system specs in your profile or by your sig.

i use a very fine sewing needle to tease them back into place,be very very carefull though and dont mess/bend them too much or they will simply break off, then your board is scrap!!!!

I was having a look and they don't look bent... they look dark, like they're burnt

    I here were my specs.

    i7-920 D0 Was cooled with an H70
    GA-X58A-UD5 V1.0
6GB Kingston HyperX 2000Mhz running at 1600Mhz with 8-8-8-24 timings
    EVGA GTX 580 Vanilla GPU
    Corsair TX950 PSU
    housed in a HAF-X 945 Case

I had OC'c this setup a few times I participated in ForumWarz 2011, but that was the last time I oc'd it.. been running stock since.

I'll look at updating my sig... right now I'm using my GA-890FXA-UD7 with a Phenom II X4 955... better than dead but not the same :(

I'm going to get a better magnifying glass but they sure looked burnt.

If you can post some pics of the socket for us and we can look also. Make sure you are in a very well lit room, dont use the flash on the camera, and if your camera supports it use Macro mode. Also look at the pads on the cpu make sure each pin is touching a pad. You should see a indentation where the pin makes contact.

the pads on the 920 look mint with a near perfect indentation on 95% of the pads. the other don't have an indentation.

I have some bad pictures, I'm getting a desk glass with light, I'll re-take them and post up tonight.

Check out the burnt cpu socket pins in LGA 1155 Socket Burn: here we go again where several pins are missing their tips.

they look ok to me,a bit burnt/black but the tips are intact,if your very very carefull you could lift them up ever so slightly to makesure they are making good contact with the cpu pads, but i wouldnt be worried too much, the board im using as alot more burnt pins than those
