The following might help:

• From the mobo user manual: "Due to a Windows 7 limitation, please connect your USB device(s) to the USB 2.0/1.1 port(s) before the Intel USB 3.0 controller driver is installed."
• pages 56 - 57: Disable usb 3.0 and xHCI options in the bios
• disable unused hardware options, such as Gsata, etc.

Don't ask me what any of this means, I'm still in the P35 universe.

is it the etron usb3? if so ive heard issues with older drivers,check to see if this driver is newer than the ones youve been installing

I'm also having random system freezes (24 hours Prime95 AVX stable), really i dont know what to do, is all this caused by the USB3 driver ?.

I don't think it's a driver issue. I got freezes in the BIOS before even any drivers load.

Most people seem to have resolved their problems or else RMAed them. I can run the UD5H board fine as long as I don't load the USB3 driver i.e. I use the system with only USB2 ports available.

Just to deter anyone from being misled, I don't think that's an accurate overall generalization. As you clearly see from the majority of comments in this long thread, it's fundamentally the Base Clock issue and the need to manually set it at 100.1. I even upgraded to BIOS v7 (official, not beta) that got released May 11, which you'd think Gigabyte built to address these issues, but without manually setting the Base Clock to 100.1 away from the default setting, the same freezes recurred.

Again, USB is probably not the core problem. But clearly Gigabyte has a lot more work to do, and is so far unresponsive.

Just thought I'd drop back in and say what fixed this for me, for now, still waiting for final BIOS fix.

I found a memory compatibility issue with two different types of IC's (Hynix BFR / Samsung HYK0), that are used in 4GB based modules. I've sent in a report and they are aware of the issue and working to correct it.

The ONLY thing that fixed this for me was to go back to 2GB based modules, instantly freezes and instant reboots were gone!! I must have missed this before in my initial attempts at switching around various memory kits!

So, if you are having these issues, and are using 4GB based memory kits, please switch over to 2GB based kits if you can and that should help until they get new BIOSes out!

There may be added compatibility for 4GB modules in the latest UD5H BIOS, not sure as I'm using UD3H BIOS and have not tested UD5H one yet. Nor have I tested any of the latest Final BIOSes that just came out yet, will test those with 4GB kits tonight

I tried a different OS to see if this happened, and it did not. Of course you can't install Intel USb drivers int he other OS since XP wont accept them, so perhaps that is it. I have 4 CPUs, 2500K, 2600K, and two other Ivy CPUs, 3570K and 3770K. This issue only happens with the 2500K at stock, and is isolated to it, if that makes any sense.

At some point I think it is CPU dependent too, as these issues aren't easily reproducible.
FYI if you are freezing in the BIOS, you need to RMA your board, at least if you are at stock. If you are OCed and freezing in BIOS your OC is unstable, notice your BIOS temp isn't your idle CPU temp, that UEFI puts a load on your CPU.

Clearly, Lsdme isn't man enough to handle memory with 4GB per stick.
All kidding aside, it will help if everyone's forum signature and/or PC Specs includes how many modules X memory size per module, such as 2x4GB, 4x4GB, etc.

And I ran 16GB for my X79 review at 2333Mhz 9-10-11-28 too (CPU wouldn't do 2400 or above though, with any modules/timings)

It's just a IC incompatibility with Z77 BIOS, same happens with both kits even with majorly loose timings (CAS 11-12 at 2133), super high voltages 1.7-1.8+, or single sticks.

You are right Sin, it's often hard to reproduce because once it's OK it's usually OK for a long time and wont happen again until you let the board sit for many hours IE Cold boot again. I tested for a little while (2 days) with a neighbors 3570K and the same occurred with the 4GB problematic kits, so I feel it's a memory incompatibility issue more than a CPU model/type issue. At least for the issue I'm running into anyway. All testing on my end was done at 2133 or above, did not waste time with lesser testing as I never planned to run slower memory speeds and it shouldn't be warranted. They'll fix this, the memory issues anyway, on the BIOS end of things.

Hopefully once others with this issue chime in about their modules we'll know more, as this might just be a memory ONLY issue!! And hopefully those affected also have some 2GB sticks they can fall back on for testing to verify there issues were also 4GB IC related.

I'm sure Gigabyte will be able to get all this fixed up shortly!

Well, i updated my bios to the F8 version (official version according to the z77x-d3h page), I've also removed USB3.0 drivers. Since then i had zero freezes / lock ups, hopefully its fixed already (using 2x4GB G.Skill Sniper 1.25v).
