Is the HDMI port supposed to be powered up when the computer is shut down?

Here's the deal. I have an "unpowered" 3 port HDMI switch from IOGEAR.
Have 2 computers and one monitor.
Using onboard HDMI port with Z68, using video card with Z77.
With nothing powered on, only plugged in, the led fan lights on the Z77 will come on. If the HDMI cable to the Z68 is unplugged, no lights.

I used live chat yesterday with OKGEAR and after 45 minutes the only response I got from the, uh, customer no-support specialist was "sounds like a power problem". That's it, all I could get out of her after waiting all that time.
Seems to me the switch shouldn't feed back to a circuit that isn't even selected.

But wazza, how does voltage travel back through a circuit/switch that is supposedly off? I mean, regardless if the HDMI port gets power all the time, even when turned OFF, the switch surely can't be functioning correctly? Think if you had your $1000 BD player, $1000 AVR, and (pick something else) all connected and powered up but only one TV monitor, would you want voltage feeding back through one of the circuits?
You can't imagine how I freaked when I had just installed the 3770K cpu an hour before, only to see my fans light up when I plugged the two pc's into the switch.

But yeah, I don't understand why the HDMI port would be powered when the computer is off, and to me the switch doesn't work right either.

EDIT: But taking your post seriously, I will fire up the Z68 and disable the USB charging, though I don't know what that will get me.

the usb charging is the only thing that allows power to the mb when its swiched off,its either something to do with that or the hdmi switch,i cant think of what else it could be?

Apparently the HDMI retains active voltage. I hooked up my other 6850 card in the machine and it did the same thing. So it gets down to the switch, I guess. Got an email in to OKGEAR, I'll see what they have to say. Paid $40 for the switch a while back and have no idea where the packaging is. Knowing how Newegg is probably no use to RMA it without all the original stuff.

Yeah I am not sure but I do know with my setup. I have my Acer 24" monitor connected via DVI, I have my TV LG 34" connected to my Surround sound system then to my computer via HDMI. Even when my TV and sound system are off the computer still knows its connected, and the video card is running at 450Mhz at idle. If I go into display properties and tell it to only use my Acer monitor it will allow my video card to down clock to 250Mhz. Also while I have it setup to only display on the Acer you still here the windows detect new hardware and disconnect hardware when you power the stereo and TV on and off. As if I still had it set to 2 display's.

Sure, I get it. But I'm using 2 pc's and one monitor, a little different situation. I understand the +5V or whatever it is stays online. The problem is evidently with the switch itself, as it's allowing voltage to "bleed" back from one pc to another, which can't be good.
Besides, I wanted the Z68 to be running all the time, and with it lighting up my Z77 it's a little too much night light.
I have another old Dell monitor but unfortunately it's Dsub and the Z68 only has HDMI out. I tried chaining adapters together but that didn't work. I guess if I have to I could take my other 6850 and try going DVI--->VGA and see if it works. Seems like a waste when I already spent $40 on the switch. But I got a message in to IOGEAR and maybe they gotta fix.

Yeah it does sound like a switch problem. As you said it should not send voltage back to the other computer.

I was using a trendnet kvm switch which was VGA but when for some reason with my 6950 going from DVI to VGA to the KVM to VGA to my monitor the graphics just had some sorta hazzy distorted look to and it just bothered me. So now I just have my UD5 going DVI to vga to my monitor and the OC is DVI to my monitor and just use my monitor to switch between the two systems and using a old PS/2 keybaord for the UD5. I thought about getting a new KVM with dvi.
