GA-X79-UD5 - Drives connected to eSATA ports not seen in BIOS

Hard drives connected to the eSATA ports (Marvell controller) on my GA-X79-UD5 are not seen in the BIOS but Windows 7 can see and access them normally.

Hard drives on the other two Marvell controllers are seen in the BIOS as expected.

Any suggestions or comments?

Where are you looking in bios and saying it does not see the drives? If the eSata port is set to AHCI it is possible it will not show the drive in bios but you should see the drive in HDD boot order section of the bios. I personally would not be too concerned since the drive is being detected by windows unless you are indeed trying to boot from the drive.

I am looking in the section under Marvell ATA Controller Configuration and in the Hard drive boot list.

The two other controllers show the drives that are connected to them (also in the boot list) but not the drives connected to the eSATA controller.

All the Mavell controllers are set ot AHCI.

If they do not show in the BIOS, they can not be set in boot priority.

This part is not 100% true. As when drives connected to the Intel controller and set to AHCI or Raid drives will no longer be showen in bios excecpt for HDD boot order. Drives will be detected doring post during the AHCI boot loader and or Raid rom. Unelss this is something new X79 this is how it has been since P45 chip sets.

So you are tring to boot from drives connected to the eSata ports? Have you tried different drives? Maybe try clearing cmos, load optimized defaults and/or flash to the newest bios for your board.

I have tried a number of drives, reset the CMOS, and I am at the latest released BIOS for this board, F10. There is a beta BIOS F11c but I have been unable to determine what it fixes.
I am trying to boot from the eSATA as it should work. This is just part of my testing the board.

The drives do not show in the boot order.

The eSATA is using one of the three Marvell controllers.

I can boot from any of the other Marvell controllers.

I previously had a GA-P45-UD3P.

I updated the BIOS to F11C and it made no difference.

Is there information available regarding what changes are in F11C from F10?

One other thing I noticed is there is no POST data shown during boot, only the American Megatrends logo.

From another post I read somewhere, I am led to believe this is normal for this board with the UEFI BIOS.

Can anyone confirm this or should there be data displayed during post like the GA-P45-UD3P?

Have you looked around to to see if there is a option to disable logo... Then again there might not be with new uefi 3d bios.

You can disable the Gigabyte logo screen which yields an empty POST screen except for the American megatrends log at the top.

Where did you check the ESATA drive in BIOS? You can go to BIOS menu > HDD boot priority, the ESATA drive should be there
