Default GA-Z77X-UD5H F12 Key does not work?

I am trying to use a USB 2.0 device to save some screen shots of the BIOS. I am using a 4GB drive and the BIOS version is F6. All I get is a pop up window in the BIOS that says ~~No USB device was detected. Windows has no problem detecting the device. What is the secret to using this feature.

Yes, the BIOS Legacy USB 2.0 is set to Enabled. Yes, all my USB sticks are formatted as Fat 32. I have updated the BIOS on the GA board using a USB stick and it worked ok. Is there someone out there with a GA-Z77X-UD5H/3570K setup that has used the F12 BIOS screen dump? I also have an ASUS setup but Gigabyte is another adventure.

Works fine for me. Did a bunch of screenshots of my OC this morning. I was using front USB 3.0 ports plugged into the first USB 3.0 header.

Unbelievable. I plugged the Sandisk 4G USB stick in one of the front ports USB 3.0(Intel?) and it works as advertised. I guess USB 2.0 is on the way out! Boondocks have you tried one of the front (case) USB 2.0 ports?

Sure, they all work for me. I'm using a SanDisk Cruzer btw.

Oh well, the USB Stick works for screen dumps if I connect it to one of the USB 2.0 on the back of the MB. So the BIOS must not like the Corsair Case USB 2.0 cable/ports. Another strange thing I just experienced, the USB 2.0 Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse do not work when connected to the USB 3.0 ports on the back of the MB. I had to switch to the old keyboard and mouse because for some reason the BIOS did not like the Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard - probably because of the location of the USB 2.0 sending device even though it worked just fine in W7? This problem seems to be more common. I got more issues on the S3 sleep function but I had better start a separate thread on that problem - Profjim is watching.

Have you checked the windows Device Manager to confirm that all usb 2.0 and 3.0 devices are okie-dokie?

From page 7 in your mobo user manual:
F-USB30_3 and FUSB30_2 headers are nearest the Via VL810 chip
F-USB30_1 is near the memory slots
There is a Via VL810 chip near the rear panel's usb30 ports

    From page 11:
    USB
    Chipset
    - Up to 2 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (available through the internal USB headers)
    - Up to 6 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers)

    Chipset + 2 VIA VL810 Hubs
    - Up to 8 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers)
    * In Windows XP, the Intel USB 3.0 ports and VIA VL810 HUB can support up to USB 2.0 transfer speed.
    * Due to a Windows 7 limitation, please connect your USB device(s) to the USB 2.0/1.1 port(s) before the Intel USB 3.0 controller driver is installed.

Make sure that all usb settings in the bios Peripherals section are set up correctly.

This should help determine which mobo headers control which usb ports.
It's possible that some sub drives will only work on some ports, but not others.

It looks like page 21 has a typo where it says:
    USB 2.0/1.1 Port
The USB 2.0/1.1 port supports the USB 3.0 specification and is compatible to the USB 2.0/1.1 specification. Use this port for USB devices such as a USB keyboard/mouse, USB printer, USB flash drive and etc.

    USB 3.0/2.0 Port
The USB 3.0 port supports the USB 3.0 specification and is compatible to the USB 2.0/1.1 specification. Use this port for USB devices such as a USB keyboard/mouse, USB printer, USB flash drive and etc.

What are your bios settings (from page 56) for:
    • xHCI Pre-Boot Driver (Intel Z77 Chipset)
    • xHCI Mode (Intel Z77 Chipset)
    • HS Port #1 Switchable~HS Port #4 Switchable (Intel Z77 Chipset)
    • xHCI Streams (Intel Z77 Chipset)
    • USB Controller (USB 3.0/2.0 Controller)
