Reread Samsung 30 nm Green PC3-12800 Low Profile 1.35 V DDR3 Review - Timing and Frequency Scaling | techPowerUp where they tested with an x79 system. In Does DDR3 Memory Speed Really Matter with Ivy Bridge or Sandy Bridge? no-one has provided any proof that there are noticeable improvements with very high or extreme memory speeds in gaming or other real world applications.

I'm waiting to see how high the Sammys can go with 16GB and 32GB of memory.
my 2 cents? Enjoy the challenge of benchmarking with obscenely high overclocks, but keep the settings semi-reasonable for daily operation.

I did leave one big thing from that screen shot and that was showing what bios version. For the UP5 TH it is F6x and F10x for the UD5. My ram was not able to boot pass 2133 with 2x4gb sticks. I never did try using just 1 stick, but now with new bios they boot all the way up to 2600mhz. I will have to try my Gskill's again and see what they can do.



Yeah I was not to keen on the speeds either but that was first timing booting at 2600 and I was using timings that Sin0822 used in his screen shot of the new bios. It was a good starting point but needs some tweaking. I have no time on my hands right now, still trying to recover from my failing raid card that is number 1 priority besides work and sleep. Sleep is at the bottom of the list.

Wazza do you think it would be ok to run them at 2600 @ 1.7v 27/7? or see what voltage I need for 2400?

idk,max safe dram voltage for sb was 1.5750v idk if it applies to ib

try and see how well the read/write/copy figures are for 2133mhz and try and tighten up the timings/lower dram,i think youd get that speed with 1.55v dram voltage

hi, i did an "auto" overclock, just set 40 on multiplier with power savings enable (to reduce heat) with HT on*
but the voltage on load is 1.33

my question is, it is possible set a voltage like 1.28 or 1.30 with 45 on multiplier BUT keep power savings enabled?
cause i dont need full load all the time, only when i gaming

i simply want a "good" overclock to enjoy the benefits of the i7 and the 1600mhz from memory

You can use DVID voltage option. Need to set cpu vcore to normal and then DVID will unlock and then adjust accordenly to get your load voltage you need. At idle voltage will drop then rise when loaded.

I cant tell you that each cpu is different you need to stress test and lower voltages as low as possible while maintaining stability. Suggest using programs like LinX or Prime95. When you run these programs you better be watching the core temps of the cpu with either programs real temp or coretemp. You want to keep then at or below 80c.

Start of with a fixed voltage see what you need for 4.5ghz then set vcore to normal and then adjust DVID to till when cpu is full load the vcore matches what it was when set fixed. So lets say your cpu needs 1.25v for 4.5ghz when set to normal and vcore is to low like 1.20 you will have to set dvid to a + value untill you vcore reads 1.25v. Or the same goes if normal is higher then 1.25v like 1.300v set DVID to a - value untill load vcore = 1.25.

Adjust DVID is small increments as its not really a set figure you are adding or subtracting. If you need to raise vcore by 0.05v you may only need to move DVID by .002v. Also set LLC to Extreme, LLC is load line calibration.

If you get any BSOD error codes make sure you wright down the Stop error codes as this can help you determine what voltage may need to be adjusted.

on idle cpuid says 1.020v (x16) on load cpuid says 1.34v, but coretemp says 1.37, which one is the real?

so if i want decrease those 1.34 i have to set dvid=-?.??? to get something safe like 1.32 or 1.30 ?

Set your LLC manually to medium, high, extreme - whatever you think you need. I usually don't go above "high" for final setting, depending on how much droop I want/need. Reboot and see what you have then start adjusting DVID.

can try dvid set to -0.0400v to bring cpu load voltage down from 1.34 to 1.3v if its unstable you can try -0.0200v for 1.32v cpu voltage

Remember guys 3rd gen i7 utilize SVID where the VID will change as CPU multi will change. So what is normal voltage for 45x is not the same for 44x which you will also have to adjust dvid for. Dvid is also more of a percent then a fixed value so if he needs to drop vcore by .15v he may only need to adjust dvid by .05 or so. You have to play around with it to see. When I was playing with DVID I had LLC set to extreme. Maybe that was my problem and not using LLC High.
