Small blue lines appear next to icons on desktop

My Gigabyte motherboard computer appears to be working well, except I sometimes get these small blue horizontal lines next to icons on the desktop.
This seems to happen after I open a folder or text document.
When I close the folder or document, the icon behind it is left with a small (about 10mm) light blue line next to the icon.
If I click on the icon, the line disappears.
Any clues?

Is it a BIOS issue?
Is it because I'm using XP ?
Is it related to some driver that needs updating?

The graphics are Intel. I used the drivers that came on the CD supplied with the motherboard.
