P35-DQ6 keeps freezing

Hello to all.

I need help here.

My computer freezing during games. Usually the game, any game, will freeze within 15mins. Sometimes in windows @ idle too.

I just want to ask if anyone have had similar problems with this motherboard solved the issue?
I suspect with the rams. Not the ram itself but the motherboard compatiblity.
I am running 2x2GB kingston and 1xCorsair 1333

well, you have three issues with your ram.

1. you have two different sets of ram which may need very different settings and they are conflicting with each other. just use the matched pair.

2. you have an odd number of sticks. sometimes the system will put your memory in single channel mode with odd numbered amount of sticks. shouldn't cause freezing though.

3. adding more than 2 sticks will put a greater load on the memory controller and your ram may not run at rated speeds on stock settings.

Make sure when upgrading memory you buy all sticks in one kit. never buy one set then add another as the sticks may be slightly off and cause timing issues and possibly crashes.

if you still have issues with one set, then try each stick one at a time to see if you have a bad stick.
if problem persists then try one one stick and test in each slot for possible bad slot/controller issues.

I think I have fixed it by removing the 2x 1GB Kingston ram.
Now it runs fine on 1 slotted 4 GB Corsair.
What is the maxiumum ram I can install it? It says it supports 8GB of ram. Can i use it only in 1 slot?

My P35-DS3L runs with 4 x 2GB of DDR2-1066 memory.
Your higher end P35T-DQ6 should run fine with 4 x 2GB of DDR3-1333 memory if all memory slots are OK.
With 8GB of memory, you will probably need to increase the (G)MCH voltage setting.

The Gigabyte web page says:

1. Supports DDR3 1333*/1066/800 memory
2. Dual Channel architecture supports up to 8GB by 4 DIMM slots

This does not mean that all DDR3 memory modules will work.

you're best off buying memory is packaged sets of two or four sticks.

What was your result with the Kingston set? They will run in dual channel and give a slight increase in performance.

one 4gb stick will be fine. If you need more than try to buy a full set.

If your system took the one 4gb modules, then it should take up to 4 modules for a 16GB total. I wouldn't recommend more than 8GB (2 x 4GB set) unless you have a specific need for more memory.

It is unlikely that his system will support 4 x 4GB.

I think it makes problem using other slots so I am not going to use other 3 X free slots.
I am not sure if one slot can be used with 1 X 8 GB memory so I can buy in the future.
I just bumped memory voltage 0.20v by the way.

In my experience memory limitations are a single module limit, not a whole set size. For example this board supports 8GB when using all 4 dimms. In otherwords it supports 4 x 2GB modules since there is 4 slots.

Since he has a single 4GB module working it should support 4 x 4GB modules. It's usually all slots support it, not just certain slots support 4GB. At least in my experience this has always been true.

Yes, he needs to run some memory stress tester.

In windows I use HCI Design's MEMTEST: (you may need to run more than 1 instance at the same time)
MemTest: RAM reliability tester for Windows

From a bootable CD I burn Memtest86+:
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

This should test very well. Make sure to run at least 100% can take a few hours depending. I like to run it while I sleep so it runs a few times for extra security.

The most recent bios version for the P35T-DQ6 is June 2009 for both versions, 1.0 and 1.1.
Just because a single 4GB memory module passes all memory stress tests in each of the four memory slots doesn't mean that using two or four 4GB memory modules will work. I've seen many forum posts where running 4GB modules is much harder to get stable with much newer motherboards. Sometimes a more mature bios version will fix these issues. The one thing in the OP's favor is that he has a high end motherboard.

With my dual core cpu in my P35-DS3L I've found that HCI MemTest runs best with 3 instances running and testing 1600MB in each test with my 8GB setup.
It's not enough just to increase the memory voltage, there are additional memory settings that must also be tweaked.
Some memory brands or models have compatibility issues with some motherboard models.

Its been 5 years since I have bought this motherboard. Actually I am not gamer but I love to play Battlefield 3 on this computer.(even i've xbox)
I have had a contactless Nvidia 8800 GTX crashing&freezing with Battlefield 3 so i decided to cook it.

Actually it worked for 8 months and failed. I cooked it again. It worked for 4 months.Cooked again and worked for 2 months. Bored with cooking and I bought Asus HD6880.
Now I still could play BF3 at all HIGH @1980x1080 resolution without any lag.

I have had Quadro FX 1500 GO in the past that failed with the same symtoms. Wish I had know the cooking stuff and saved my 1300$. :(
Anyway, I learned not to spend high-end hardwares.
