Gigabyte x58a-ud3r + 2x Gigabyte HD 6850

Hi new to this site so hope im setting this in the right place, my Problem is i have just bought a new gpu Gigabyte HD 6850 to add to my other one so i could use crossfire, since iv had the 2 gpu's in i keep getting ramdom crashes - freez ups sometimes in games like BF3 and other times in bench marks like heaven, iv had the odd maybe 2 or 3 freez ups just sat on the desktop doing nothing, only things iv tryed changeing since this has been happening is the cpu v-core i have now set to 1.232 and i tryed putting the qpi vtt up a little but have since put that back, all hard where tested on there own both gpu's work fine with no crash or freez ups, is there something im missing, this is my first crossfire setup i have the latest drivers and cap from amd and all other hardware drivers are up to date.
any help here to get this stable would be great, thanks

Are you running the 12.6 driver or the Beta 12.7 ?

Did you try thr 12.7 Beta and see if its better ?

AMD shows as a 12 point


Gigabyte shows as a 8 point version, so its had to say what AMD version is in the driver.

NOTE; I never use drivers from the MFG site ( ie- GIG, ASUS ), as they tend to be so outdated its a joke.

i have tryed the 12.7 beta drivers and they did the same thing now back to useing the 12.6 drivers, most stupid thing about this problem is that if i play ghost recon future slodier all maxed out it doesnt crash or freez, well atleast not yet, but other games like bf3 and any gpu bench mark random freezes or crashes, i say random as sometimes they work fine, yesterday i ran Heaven bench mark 7 times in a row all good so played furtur soldier for about an hour stil all good then ran Heaven again and it froze

I would try the driver/soft from gig at this point.

I would blow away and reinstall OS with graph driver, just me, most people never want to re-install.

They did the beta 12.7 due to problems on Elder.

I have had to install a lot, as I always try Beta, and sometimes have to go back to WHOL.

I had a few times with builds that installing and un-installing-even with youruninstaller pro, I felt that it was getting buggy from this, so I did fresh and seemed to be better.


Just a note, have you gone here and did a PSU calc, I know your cards don't use much power, but just in case. Your running some good game that use these cards heavy.

what amount of qpi/vtt voltage are you using?

thanks for the repleys, my QPI/VTT Voltage is set at 1.235v

that seems low to me,i dont know if cpu is overclocked or not but even for stock clocks id use atleast 1.3v or 1.315v for qpi/vtt,i ran that much for years and no issues at all

what is the qpi/vtt for or what does it do ?

things i have done and tryed today, i changed the system bios from f6a to f4 then to f5 as the f6 and above are beta's i have now done a total reinstall on my ssd and have finished all driver updates and windows up dates too and im still crashing hmmmm really getting annoyed with this.
someone said to me it could be PSU but i doubt that as its not very old and 700w-750w should be plenty i know theres others out there running 2x hd6850's on 600w

the gpu i started with is the Gigabyte GV-R685D5-1GD 775mhz cor 1005mhz memory and the gpu i just bought is the GV-R685OC-1GD 850mhz core 1050mhz memory, i have jumped the bios on the first card to the same as the new second card both are showing up in gpu-z as 850/1050 i have tryed it this way and with the old card with its own bios and still get the same freez ups.

qpi/vtt is for the integrated memory controller built into the cpu,if it isnt enough it can cause freezing/lock ups like you described,id set it to 1.315v and see if it still freezes

than you for explaning what the QPI/VTT is for i changed it to where you said but still freezes up when ever it wants to sometimes i can run anything up to 6 benchmarks in a row and freez like on the 7th or so but then sometimes it will just freez on the first bench mark, i hate this kind of problem i think it would be easier if it were to freez at certen points like in a 3d app but its even froze up on the desktop and again while watching a film in media player, very frustraiting
