Default Problem going from Z68 to Z77 MB?

I cloned the W7 system from an ASUS P8-Z68-V Pro/2600K and am ran it on a GA-Z77X-UD5H/2600K. Seemed OK. I then replaced the 2600K with a 3770K. Seemed OK. Somewhere along the line I updated the GA-Z77X-UD5H BIOS from F9q to F14. Seemed great. I then updated to the latest version all the drivers for W7 from the Gigabyte site. Seemed OK. HOWEVER...when I run IBT V2.54 with all the Optimized Default BIOS settings IBT runs the 10 passes in ~160 seconds after a fresh reboot. BUT... the second time I run it the time jumps to ~180 seconds and moves all over the place (always higher than than the first time after a reboot) on subsequent runs. I have tried the reboot routine several times and always get the same result! I also have a problem running IBT when the system is setup for 4.5GHz. It takes about the same time (~160 Seconds) as it did at the default settings. The system will run Prime95 for 30+ minutes at 4.5GHz and does not appear to have a problem - not errors from Prime95 and the WHEA log is empty. Anybody got a clue on what went wrong alone the way? I'm ready to break down an install a fresh copy of W7. I have cheated and cloned W7 many times when switching hardware and never had a problem until now.

    Here we go!

F7 BIOS (Backup on MB) Default settings.
    IBT run 1 - 168.17
    IBT run 2 - 167.48
    IBT run 3 - 164.16
    No reboots.

    F14 BIOS Default settings.
    IBT run 1 - 167.95
    IBT run 2 - 168.17
    IBT run 3 - 164.44
    No reboots.

F14 BIOS Set to 42 Clock Ratio all else Default settings.
    IBT run 1 - 156.59
    IBT run 2 - 176.90 - CPU-Z and CoreTemp running
    IBT run 3 - 152.77
    IBT run 4 - 153.51
    IBT run 5 - 173.46 - CPU-Z and CoreTemp running
    IBT run 6 - 172.86 - CPU-Z running
    IBT run 7 - 153.54 - CoreTemp running
    No reboots.

So...W7 is exonerated. The guy that is causing me all the timing problems is CPU-Z v1.6.5.X64!!! When I was playing with the BIOS settings I was using CPU-Z and CoreTemp to see what was happening with the voltage and core temperatures. All you OC'ing experts - what should I be using to see what is going on when playing with BIOS settings?

CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting shows that v1.61 is the latest release.
You can run Task Manager's Resource Monitor using the CPU tab, where the displayed tasks are sorted by average cpu usage from highest to lowest to see which tasks are the worst cpu hogs during your stress test. On my older dual core systems, sidebar.exe for gadgets is always near the top of the list, along with perfmon.exe which is the Resource Monitor program.

When I do performance and/or stress tests, I always boot my system and wait for about 15 minutes for everything to settle down. To minimize unexpected background tasks running, you can disable your internet connection and then suspend or disable your anti-virus program while performing your tests.

Post an IBT screen-shot that shows the results of one of your tests so that we can also see the threads and memory size options that you selected.

    ProfJim,

I'm stressing this thing with 8 threads. Attached is a "good" run @ 4.2 GHz. I still haven't figured out your instructions for attaching multiple screen shots - got to the next post for the screen shot to see the effect of CPU-z. I guess I'm the only person on this site to NOT realize CPU-z was a cycle sucker!

    ProfJim,
Here is the screen shot of what CPU-z did to the IBT results. And yes, I tend to wait several minutes after a boot to let Windows settle down. However, with the newer high power cpu's, MB's and SSD's it seems that has a pretty minor effect on the results.

Default Re: Problem going from Z68 to Z77 MB?

On my P35 system, after running for about one minute, cpu-z (v1.56) averages about 0.48% cpu usage when my system is idle.
For the mathematically challenged, this is just under one half of one percent.
Try downloading and running a slightly older version of cpu-z to see if its cpu usage is lower in the Resource Monitor.
There might be a bug with your 1.61 version.

The individual elapsed times and GFLops scores in your first post have much less variation than the results in your second post.

I use my public folder in DropBox to use multiple images in a single post.
DropBox is free with a 2GB limit on storing files.
Using the Insert Image option in the forums Go Advanced posting window, you should be able to include multiple screen-shots where you use the From URL option to include individual links to saved images. This approach will work with many other free or paid online storage sites.

BTW, I prefer to test with at least 2GB of memory and never run more than 5 - 10 IBT or LinX loops.

I would guess that all things aren't the same from system to system, from board to board, from cpu to cpu. Do yourself a favor and do a fresh install.
