try with performance enhance on standard or normal, see if that helps, all it does is loosen the secondary ram timings
Hey folks,
Well, I have a "little" problem with the computer booting up then just shutting down. It only happens first thing in the morning and does not leave any messages or blue screens. Just started about a week ago. Symptoms are: it will boot to the Windows screen and then just shut--off. One time after it shut down I hit the power button to restart and nothing happened. I had to try the power button several times waiting in between tries before anything would happen and then again it would shut down sometimes during the posting. In the afternoons, I will try and it will start up and run fine, ( running through the night, flight sims and etc ) I have run memtest 86 vs 4.0a, to check possible ram issues, only ran it for 4 passes @ 1.5 hrs with no errors. Did the paperclip test with the power supply and the fan spins ( whatever that means--ha ). I have been thinking about purchasing a power supply tester, just haven't done it. I have also done Nod 32 online virus scan as well as my regular Microsoft Security full scan with no issues.
In stress testing with Prime 95 for an hour, core temps respectfully, 64,66,63,68 with no issues.
I am torn on what this could be, I am thinking power supply but I am still pretty green in regards to this stuff. I will include my bios settings I have been using.
thanks so much for any help you all,
rclark

i would play around with dvid aswell if you didnt want a fixed cpu voltage all the time,as with the bios's they vary in how much voltage is needed to remain stable
try and fix this current issue though first

Hey Wazza, I changed performance enhance to standard as you recommended. As, I will not know if this works till tomorrow morning I am curious on anyones input to this thought. I was contemplating upgrading my memory from the Patriot to some Mushkin. I think this Patriot stuff has been extremely sensitive to settings, more so than some brands. I am still wondering if it could be a bad stick, seems this happened after I had pulled the memory out to install some new fans for my heatsink. When I put them back into their slots I do not believe I placed them in the same order. When I rebooted, the pc did several reboot loops, I had to turn it off to stop the reboots.. Freaked me out, I took the memory out and reseated them to make sure they were in properly, I out of curiosity switched them around again and this time it just rebooted once before booting completely. Now each morning, it does the boots to Windows and then shuts down. Would this be a good time to replace the memory to eliminate ram as the culprit ? I know power supplies can go bad also, I am just thinking out loud as they say. Memory would be cheaper than a power supply and easier to install--ha!!!
thanks--rclark

try and get hold of some ocz reaper tri channel, ive used lots of those kits and never had issues with any, would run at 1800mhz no trouble, still could be bios setting or voltage setting, and when you disturb them they can play up sometimes so its best to move em around ect or clear cmos and start over

Ok, here is the report from bios change (1) performance enhance changed from extreme to standard. I also had set a check disc scan during startup * there were a chunk of errors repaired ( this ran yesterday after changing the setting in the bios )
This morning ( 10/4--NO REBOOT !! ) Yea !! Things like this for me are a real "head scrathcher". It is so nice to have such good support and advice from you all.
One thing I don't think I really brought up was a few times when all of this was happening, it would boot up fine, then after @ 5 mins it would shut down. Sometimes it would go into the reboot loop and one time when trying to restart, it seemed there was no power when I waited a min to hit the restart button. I had to hit the start button I think 4 times before the power lights came on. Sorry to ramble on about this, I am of the type that I really want to figure out what the culprit is---ha !!! It will be my demise--ha !!!
Well today is a good day, may you all have the same and Wazza--- A BIG THANK-YOU !!! You all have as always been such great help and support. I'll keep you informed if any more reboots/shut-downs occur and proceed accordingly.
Take care--rclark

Well, I have been having issues with random shutdowns and reboots after the pc has been on. This has not happened during the little bit of simming ( flight sim ) I do. Shuts down are fairly random, you can be on the internet,or the pc is just sitting with the screen saver on and it will reboot. It seems to be starting to do this more often. Was just once or twice a week and now occuring daily. There are no blue screen issues, I have looked at the bug reports in windows and they are all "kernel power" 0x000000C ( something close to this, I may have the number of 0's wrong but it does end with the 0C. In troubleshooting this error it just mainly states an unexpected loss or shutdown of power. So my question is, how should I trouble shoot this. I have done the following, ran Memtest-86 v 4.0A with just one module of ram for approximately 10 full passes ( around an hour each ) no errors. I have also thought this may be related to my GtX560Ti(2gb) card driver so I reinstalled my old but very stable 275.33 driver and still have random reboots with no blue screens. Weird to wish for a blue screen--ha !!! I figured with a blue screen it may give a more definitive direction to where the problem lies. My only two thoughts of the problem are possible ( memory ) and seriously wondering if this is a power supply issue. In regards to power supplies, do you recommend using a power supply tester or just tearing things out and trying an old or new unit in to see if things continue. I have an older Coolermaster 650 watt that may run this, is this a good or bad idea to try ? I am also just trying to run this on optimized settings rather than my overclock to rule out some skadoo here--I did set memory to XMP and QPI/VTT --1.295 vs auto
thanks so much ---rclark
