    Question GA-Z77X-UD5H with TPM installed and BIOS upgrade

    Hi

    My motherboard has the TPM module installed initialised and 'owned'
    I'm running Windows 7 x64.
    BIOS is F8
    I want to move to the latest BIOS, however(!)
    Last time I did this, my whole system became inaccessible, and I have a sneaky feeling that the TPM was the problem.
    I haven't encrypted anything, nor have I created personal drives or secure drives or anything else.
    However, I think the BIOS holds some vital data that gets wiped with an upgrade?
    Are BIOS profiles saved individually on each chip? Or can either BIOS access them?
    What exactly am I getting from F14?
    Improved 'compatibility' isn't a helpful description of anything. May as well just say it is much nicer...

    just make a note of all your bios settings before you flash,it will wipe the settings,as for what improvements it contains i have no idea,they dont list the fixes

    I know there were some big changes between f8 and F11, off the top of my head I can not recall either. If you can remove or undo the TPM before updating the bios I would strongly recommend doing that.

    ALso make sure you update the backup bios after updating the main bios.

    Boards with bios switch can just flip the switch once they boot into q-flash.

    ALT +F10

    Hold the alt key down before the post and spam the f10 key the system should hang or appear to be hung. Release the alt key and f10 for a split second and then resume holding the alt key and press f10. You should now hear the system post spam that f10 key a couple more times then release the alt key and f10 for another second and them resume hitting them again. This should ensure that you get the screen.

    So...
    If I turn off, then select the 'backup BIOS' and use Qflash with a USB stick to upgrade that (from F6)
    Are you saying there is no risk to my stable current F9 (with TPM) BIOS?

    Yes but I can not say that about with TPM. I have not messed with TPM. But these newer motherboards seem to perform better and are more stable when both bios are matching.

    If updating main bios was smoothly then updating backup bios should go smoothly.
