I would check the voltage and make sure 1.65v for ram and manually set the timings.
Failing that just reflash the bios back to the earlier version.
Hi,
My pc ram settings was configured to2133 hz (gskill z ripgaws 32gb)
upgraded cpu to a 3970x on assassin 2 mb, 2 gigabyte gtx 690 cards.
i just updated the bios from the internet utility, now my ram is reset to 1333 speed.
On optimised default settings, all i have done is change the system memory multipier to 2133 and saved, but it either says cash from oc, or just remain at 1333 on each reboot.
what should i do? Thanks in advance

Just setting th memory ratio to make your ram 2133 is inapropriate. you have an Intel system and most G-Skill's have an XMP profile... i the bios just over where you set your memory ratio should have a Profile setting...
what would do is clear the CMOS and re-boot then go in to your bios and "Load optimized defaults" then re-boot.
Then bo back in your bios again, go in to th memory settings and select memory profile #1... that should be for your 2133mhz.. there should also be a memory profile #2 that should be set to either 2000mhz or 1866mhz.
using the XMP profile sets your memory voltages annd all the tinkering settings that are involved with memory...
try that and go from there... but just setting it to 2133 is calling for disaster without a blink.

And why do you use win7 home so only half of your ram is usable? Get ultimate.

Microsoft says that home premium is limited to 16gb of ram and he has 32gb.
Memory Limits for Windows Releases (Windows)
Thank you for the replies everyone.
I installed Win 8 pro now, yes, it was showing only 16gb usable before. I adjusted the ram timings, changed the dram voltage to 1.65, but it still reads as 1333hz. XMP doesn't work as once I change to that, even BIOS won't boot and I have to use the Bios reset to get it working again.
Any ideas why XMP makes my machine unable to boot?
If all else fails in a couple weeks I guess I'll take it to the tech shop. I would of done so already to save the trouble of asking, but it's a fair drive from where I am and I'd like to see if I can do it with help online before then.
Thanks again!

Once you manually set your timings and voltage you have to change your memory ratio. you'll have to go to either 8x or 10x...
XMP is a start for settings, sometimes XMP forces an overclock to reach the rated speeds and they don't change CPU voltages. so most of the time you have to increase the vcore and possibly other settings a tick or two to get XMP to work.
