Gigabyte MB + Gigabyte NVIDIA Graphics = No Sound (Realtek)

My Gigabyte Z77X-UD56H WiFi motherboard was running great with Windows 7 Professional, with sound, until I upgraded the video by installing a Gigabyte GEForce GTX 660 (GV-N660OC-2GD). After installing the video card, I no longer got sound through either the rear speaker jack or through the front headphone jack (or anywhere else,) where both worked before.
I’ve read of problems with NVIDIA HDMI driver’s hi-jacking the sound, and have done the following:

• Ensured the Sound “Playback Devices” have the “Speakers” selected with the green checkmark.
• Disabled the NVIDIA HDMI Output devices, including Port 0 to Port 3.
• Uninstalled all the audio drivers I could – NVIDIA and Realtek - to have them re-install automatically.
• Checked the BIOS to ensure that onboard sound is enabled.

Some things that would normally generate sound (typically a beep or one-off sound, rather than continuous audio or music,) cause a click/thump through the speakers .
If I play sound (streaming radio) and open the “Playback Devices,” I can see the bar-graph for “Speakers” bouncing up and down – presumably with the sound, though I can’t hear anything.

My monitor is connected to the video card with DVI. I tried pulling out my new video card and just going back to the built-in. That worked fine for video, but my audio didn’t return.

I’ve been working on this a week and would appreciate any input. HELP!

looked in realtek sound for "disable front panel jack detection" or "ac97" try enabling/disabling those and see if you get sound,also look for "separate jacks" or something similar and see if that gives you sound

In Realtek, I found, "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously." I chose that as opposed to what it was before, "Mute the rear output device, when a front headphone plugged in." I still have no audio. I tried plugging in the headphones to check them too and the bouncing bar-graph and the green check-mark switched to the headphones. Unplugging them change the headphones indicator to "Not plugged in" and the checkmark & bouncing bar-graph went back to "Speakers".

I can't find any other Realtek controls that would be appropriate or anything that controls AC97 (though, I'm open to pointers.)

its in there somewhere under a little spanner icon,or in a yellow folder if using the old style drivers

there is a reg tweak to open all the sound ports if you want to try that as a last resort? its also reversable

I haven't been able to find a yellow icon/wrench anywhere. I'm open to a registry tweak at this point. I'll try to upload images of what I have access to.

i dont use realtek drivers,i use what ms install,but i know its in either a yellow folder or under the spanner icon

Use REGEDIT:(type regedit into start/search programs/files)

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Curr E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}000\GlobalSettings Change the value EnableDynamicDevicesto zero. Reboot

This will entirely disablethewin7 jack detection feature. All ports will be seen regardlessof having a connection or not. You can then use the sound control panel to disable any ports you'd want to prevent being used

to change it back simply repeat the process but type 1 instead of a 0

The information you provided on the registry seems to be missing a middle part of the registry address. I can't determine what I should based on the information provided.

Disable win7 auto detection of connections to audio ports?

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}000\GlobalSettings
Change the value EnableDynamicDevices to zero.
Reboot

So, I've found the registry location, but EnableDynamicDevices doesn't seem to be there. Should I try creating it? If so, would it be a key, a string, a binary? Thanks! (As a note, I won't be back to this problem computer until about 6:30 PM EST.)

strange,ive just looked and that guide is right for my z77 board,but checked on z68 and its instead of the 0000 folder its in the 0001 folder/global settings/enable dynamic devices and where you see the 1 change it to a 0

ive done this guide on my z77 board and it works fine
