I figured this out. I went in to the control panel in win 8 and got to power management and selected Advanced settings. Under sleep there's a 'Hybrid Sleep' setting that was ON. I turned it off and now the machine shuts down during a sleep request
I tried looking for an answer on this forum before posting but i had no luck. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H mobo and i'm wondering what settings in the bios do i need to adjust to get these fans to stop once the machine is in sleep mode. I have 4 case fans and they're all powered by the sys fan jumpers on the board and not powered by the molex pins. One other thing that's interesting is the machine will only go in to sleep mode thru the button on the keyboard but i don't care about that. if i use the menu option it wakes up in a minute. Also the blue light in the case doesn't go off either which i thought it would when the fans went off.
