Finding impossible to overclock a I7 920 Bloomfield Revision CO/C1 without temp +80C

As soon as I overclock higher with increased voltage the temps go above 80C and I get booted out of windows. also if I set the memory to run at its correct speed of 1600 MHz that increases the temps, I have tried several different settings at 3.8GHz but none seem to work with lower temps, I keep the voltage low I have boot problems or memory dump blue screens, or booting out of windows, any suggestions would be appreciated, oh I have just read several posts about it being a nightmare to overclock the i7 920 bloomfield CO/C1 revision, is this true? thanks guys

what cooler are you using? it depends on your chip ive had three 920's two were average and one was a golden cpu just 1.23v for 4.2ghz and 79c

tell me your cpu voltage in the bios at stock cpu speeds

EDIT: what i meant was set the cpu voltage to the normal setting and see how much cpu voltage is being used in the system info page

I haven't attempted 4.2ghz, at 3.8 temp was mid 80C's

you could try setting cpu voltage to normal

180x21 bclk
12x spd memory multi
24x uncore freq
dram 1.55v-1.65v
qpi/vtt 1.35-1.38v
system performance enhance to standard

see if you have anyluck for 3.8ghz with those settings,it will be difficult with 12gb of ram compared to 6gb
