Default Repeat BIOS restarts before successful boot

On first start up in the morning yesterday and today, my computer has cycled through the BIOS a few times before booting through to completion (Win 8). At some point it's shows a "UEFI" screen and then either boots or, as yesterday, asked if I wanted to boot with Optimized Defaults (there were a couple other options). This first incidence of this occurred roughly 6 weeks ago, and has repeated maybe three times since then until yesterday. And it's first start up of the day only. I live in the Rockies (5000'), but the room (door closed) doesn't get lower than about 65F during the night. The only changes during this time - and I can't correlate dates - have been the addition of external speakers and an internal DAC, since removed in favor of an external USB powered one, run off the front USB 2.0 port. Any ideas what might be going on or where to look? Thanks,

could be memory related, esp boot loops at startup or a cold boot issue

what amount of dram voltage and qpi/vtt voltage are you using?

I'm away until Sunday night. Perhaps it will be obvious when I look, but what is qpi/vtt voltage? I've been running the RAM at 1.8, but the optimized defaults would have set it back to 1.6.

DDR3 maximum voltage is 1.8V, nominal 1.5v (jedec or 1.35 for lovo modules), "overclocked" modules use 1.65 in XMP.

Check your RAM with memtest (don't use latest beta, its buggy)

1.8v dram is way too much,1.55v-1.65v,qpi/vtt is for the integrated memory controller inside the cpu, youd need maybe 1.08v from stock 1.05v with 16gb

will check upon return. I'm probably confusing the memory setting for PC2100 with voltage.

IDK Gene just my one cent worth of information leads me to question your memory. It's hard enough to get a matched pair of 2x4 GB memory and another matched pair of 2x4 GB memory of the same brand to work properly. (not all 8 GB were matched for example) Then you complicate this in trying to get two different brands of memory to work as one. It is possible but much more difficult to accomplish. G/L

From my signature: 16 GB G.Skill DDR3 2133 RAM (Ares 2x4gb, Sniper 2x4gb). Both pairs were allegedly matched.
