Thumbs up Sound Problem with GA-P55-UD4P (rev. 1.0)

Thinking of purhcasing the sytem below.Would like some adice o problem is and if it is a setup problem or a component of motherboard itself actually permanently damaged. ANy advice welcome fhe not highly tech savy but have a fair understanding of the basics.
    Thanks in advance

23 inch LG Flatron LED monitor with psu cable in great condition. Model number: E2350

    -Intel Core i5 pc, specifications:

    -Intel Core i5 750 cpu Link:ARK | Intel® Core
-Thermalright heatsink with custom 14cm silent Fractal design fan
-Graphics Card: Asus HD 7750 OC 1GB GDDR5
    -Gigabyte motherboard Socket 1156 GA-P55-UD4P Link:GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1156 - GA-P55-UD4P (rev. 1.0)
    -Geil EVO ONE 8GB (2GB x 4) 2133MHz DDR3 RAM Link:PC3-17000 2133MHz C9 EVO ONE DUAL CHANNEL - Products - GeIL Memory
-500GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA-300 Hard Drive (Formatted and ready to use)
    -DVD-RW
    -TP-LINK Wireless N PCI adaptor 150Mbps
-Cooler Master Elite pc case with 420W Thermal Master power supply and psu cable, and rear case fan.

-All the above components are in great condition, the graphics card was bought brand new at the start of the year as well as the pc case with the power supply. The wireless adaptor was recently added a few months ago and is in top condition as well. The cpu, motherboard, ram, dvd-rw, and hard drive were second hand sourced but are also in top condition and perform really well. The only minor problem is that the sound driver for the motherboard does not seem to work and so no sound when using a speaker sound cable plugged in the motherboard, this seems to be a problem for alot of people with the same motherboard, however this can be fixed easily by a computer minded person by swtching the sound cable on the motherboard to another slot. Or you can just add speakers to the LED monitor and have sound via the LED monitor which has an HDMI connection as well as VGA and DVI, this is the easiest and best option. A free 3m top quality hdmi cable will also be provided so you can connect the pc to the LED monitor and enjoy the graphics and sound when your speakers are plugged into the monitor.

Is the on-board sound enabled in the bios?
What does windows Device Manager show for the Sound Icon? Any error codes? Is the sound device status = device is working properly?
What is the name and version number of the sound drivers/software that is installed?

From Control Panel --> Sound, what is the default playback device? What are its configured settings?
What brand and model number are your speakers? Are they self powered?
Is the windows Mute function enabled?

Your motherboard user manual should have a detailed section that deals with properly configuring your on-board sound setup.
