Gigabyte Z97MX gaming 5 Bios reset problem
Hello people, how you all going today,
My name is Daryl, i have been a PC technician (+MCSA) for a while now and I'm looking for other expert advise/help with my problem.
Just upgraded my rig (tax return gift) and i am having one annoying problem.I Just bought the system last Friday. Brand new motherboard, memory and CPU
My problem is every time i cold boot the PC i get a bios error message saying my
"Bios has been reset - Please decide how you want to continue
Load optimized defaults then boot
Load optimized defaults then reboot
Enter Bios"
So i initially thought the bios battery is dead, checked the voltage of the battery it read .2v (battery DOA). New battery installed, same message. Been like this all week. At night i shutdown windows, i switch off the PC at the wall then the next morning the bios error. My bios setting are not getting saved.
So at the start of my day i setup the bios and it runs perfect even if i do a reboot. The problem is only once i turn off power at the wall, i lose my settings.
The new battery i replaced is still reading 2.8V which means its still good.
Ive tried taking everything out of the system and replacing 1 by 1.
Upgrade the bios to version F4
Replaced battery.
I can only say the cmos battery holder has some cracked soldering joins or a track on the board is cut somewhere. I have contacted gigabyte tech support and im waiting for a reply but I'm open for any suggestions.
My setup is
I7-4790K
H220 WATER COOLER
Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5
kingston beast 2x8gb
3 various SSD's
Gigabyte Odin 800w PSU
Gigabyte 280x
Antec 900 case
Regards
Daryl
Re: Gigabyte Z97MX gaming 5 Bios reset problem
Hi and welcome to our forum.
Yea,it's unusual that new board came with death battery.
Can you try to clean this cracked soldering joins in battery holder ?
Seems to me is shorted,so like Clear_CMOS..... must start setting all over again.
If new battery is already 2.8V...very soon will be death again.
Yes,contact your shop or GB direct.
Edit:
Can you check with multimer resistance of Clear_CMOS pins?

Hello stasio,
thanks for your quick reply.
I tested the clr_cmos pins and got no readings at all, open circuit which right.

That's good.....
Also you can check in battery holder.
Anyway Clear_CMOS pins for 10-15 sec (with battery in, unplug your power supply), maybe help.

Ok, the battery holder read 1.08ohms at 20k,
i tried removing the power supply and reset still no good.
Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time so far.
Daryl,

Bring board back to shop.
Re: Gigabyte Z97MX gaming 5 Bios reset problem
hey, i created an account here to post just about this. i received the same board z97mx gaming 5 about a week ago and am having THE EXACT same problem. computer works fine as lonmg as its left plugged in, but if i unplug it from the wall or switch off the power on the psu, it forces me to resetup the bios everytime. i also purchased 3 extra cmos batterys but problem still exists. just wondering if the OP is around and how his situation was resolved.
